Deep Fork National Wildlife Refuge: Coalton Bottoms - Oklahoma, United States

Story:
An easy to access spot on the south end of the Deep Fork NWR, the Coalton Bottoms trail is a 1/2 mile long gravel road that was converted from an old train track.  The trail edges the Deep Fork River and has lots of places to veer into the woods or closer to the water.  A small boardwalk has been built to overlook the river about 2/3rds of the way down the trail.

The terrain is very moderate, though a course up the hill to the south of the trail could be steep. Venturing too far off the trail will land you on private or non-protected land that is covered in oil drilling equipment (hence the film on the nearby creek water).

The land here is pretty, secluded, very quiet and relatively free of litter.

On this particular trip, I spotted one Pileated Woodpecker, several bobcat and deer tracks, and lots of other small wildlife.

Great place to visit for a 1-2 hour easy hike.
Tips:
Venture into the woods up the hill if you are a birder.  Lots of activity along the side of hill.
