I wanted to get out and go for a good hike while I had the opportunity. Having never hiked Big Basin before, I didn't really have a destination in mind until I saw the signs for Berry Falls. I'm glad I made it out there.

The hike itself was reasonably strenuous, and I made it more so by going as quickly as I did. I think if you took the 6 hours that the sign suggests, it wouldn't be so difficult. However, I was tiring pretty dramatically by about mile 8, and the elevation profile gives a good indication as to why that might be. Not only was I 8 miles in, but I was 2 miles into a significant, steady climb back up to the parking lot. While the vertical component of this hike isn't huge, it isn't small, either.
