Story:
The Clinch Mountain Trail is a new trail that is not "officially" a trail yet but should be opening soon. It goes from Hayter's Gap Road (Route 80) at the top of the mountain to Low Gap at Hidden Valley Lake. It is a ridge trail, traveling approximately 14 miles. As such, it is relatively flat except for a fairly steep section from Hayters Gap to the Channels. It is in good enough shape at this point to follow with relatively little difficulty. There are white arrows indicating the path of the trail. If in doubt, just stay on the ridge.

We started the trip from the Hayter's Gap side. It is a relatively short trip to the Channels from this location. There is a spur trail about 3 miles in that goes to the Channels. The Channels is less than a quarter mile from there. It is worth seeing if you've never seen it.
Tips:
This is hunting territory, so wear orange during hunting season.

There is an unmarked spur trail to the left near Hidden Valley Lake that comes out near the dam. This will save a significant distance off your hike and allow you to see the lake. You cannot see the lake from the ridge trail.
