Story:
We paddled this creek for the first time in July of '11 and have been looking forward to this return since. There's a magic here that takes you back in time and lets your mind go barefooted.
Last year the duckweed was thick and we decided to travel west from the ramp to Crescent Lake and had a wonderful time. At the time we rented a boat from an outfitter in Palm Coast and had a deadline to meet (and missed.) This trip we had both boats and more time to play, still not enough with these short winter days.and we had to turn around with open water ahead of us. We made it beyond the 305 bridge where the creek begins to get shallow and the tree cover begins to thin. Aside from the traffic on the bridge and one boat we encountered on the water the paddle was quiet and peaceful. This waterway winds through some of the most beautiful scenery we've seen in North Florida. Very easy to relax and recharge here as you follow the creek through the many bends and a straight run that on a calmer day would would show some spectacular reflections. We had some gusty winds for our trip and although we were sheltered the wildlife was scarce. I suppose spooked by the wind.
There are many spots to get out of the boat and stretch or eat here. We also saw several waterside decks apparently part of the scenic trail from the ramp area, this seems like it would be a very nice walk in the woods but as usual here we had to hurry our departure.

Tips:
As hard as it is to pick a favorite I would recommend this trip over the west direction to Crescent Lake. Seems more remote and more access to shore. In warmer weather the bug spray is probably in order.
