Story:
A great way to explore the Machico valley. You can drive a car up to Pico do Facho and parc there. It's a fantastic view over the Machico valley, Porto Santo, Ilhas Desertas, up to Santo da Serra and not to forget, the airport.
If you've read my descriptions before, you might have seen another walk passing Pico do Facho. It's the route to Canical.
Today we are heading for Machico and you have to go down the road undtiil you meet an electricity pylon. There is a vague trail down to the left, along a stone wall. Follow it all the way down to the city.
In the city you can visit the spectacular artificial beach, the town centre at the church and the small streets with many shops. Then turn back to the hill and climb back up to your car.

Thanks for the advise on the Oregon 450T! 30+ functions sounds like loads to play around with... :) 800 km around Madeira, you must have covered every corner of the island!. i´ve never been there, but i have been told it´s a great island to explore. a added plus on the photos, great ones overlooking the airport and the view at the top must have been really worth the climb. Photos uploaded now ;-) I can recommend the Oregon 450T and have had no troubles in bright sun. Only thing is, that it has 30+ functions of which I use 4... It's not complicated though, and it is very resistant to the weather and scratches etc. We've now done 800 km of walks on Madeira, of which I've only recorded a few. Got my Oregon just a year ago. Looks like a beautiful part of Madeira to walk, shame no photos? i see you used the Oregon 450T tracking device. Was thinking of getting one for myself but i hear the screen is hard to see in bright sun or with sunglasses? Regards SASWalks
