Story:
Ken B, Jeff H, Rich S, and Jim B take a walk on the upper side trails to access the damage.

We started at the Bridge Out and walked the upper trail back to the parking area.

What was observed:

  • There are 8-10 good sized trees across the trails.  Since they are on the ground they can be cut by PFMC.
  • There is a lot of small branches and brush along the trail which is expected.
  • There are two areas that had a lot of damage. Might take one work party each to clear these.
  • The number of widow-makers along the trails were less than we had anticipated.
  • There are quite a few widow-makers over hanging the road.
  • A cursory look of the lower section revealed less damage than the upper section. A closer look is needed.

PFMC recommends that tree crews drop the widow-makers everywhere they can and leave them on the ground for us to cut.

Next Steps
  1. Review the upper section past Bridge Out.
  2. Review lower section.
  3. Schedule chainsaw certification.
  4. Buy required chainsaw safety gear for four members.
  5. Buy 15-20 hard hats for clearing crew.
  6. Reach out to the riding community (outside of PFMC) for non-powered helping hands.
  7. Schedule 4-6 work parties for cleanup.
