I followed the southern route to the Pogue on the Maple Trail. Then took a route through the Kings Farm and back to the Red Pine Loop to the main trail that leads to the star via the Larch Trail. Return trip to the parking lot was the shortest route including the steeper, shorter road directly to the parking lot.

WINTER SEASON ACTIVITY
Skiing and Snowshoelng at the
Marsh-Billings-Rookefeller
National Historical Park
National Park trails on Mt Tom will not be groomed. They will be
left In their natural state for backcountry skiing and snowshoelng.
There will be no fee collected for winter activity on Mt Tom while the trails remain ungroomed. The Woodstock Nordic Center will continue to groom and Improve the Mt Peg Trail system to enhance its use for those who enjoy skiing and snowshoeing in a groomed environment.
SAFETY
Do not ski or snowshoe alone Carry a cell phone in case of an emergency. Let someone know where you are going, where you are starting from and ending at as well as the time you plan lo return.
Plan your route. Maps on Mt Tom end Mt Peg are available at the Nordic Center, the Billings Farm & Museum or National Park visitor center (when open), and the Woodstock Inn.
WEATHER
Be prepered tor all types of weather. Listen to a detailed local wealher forecast before heading out. Be minflful of the length of daylight hours.
Wear clothes that are warm and comfortable dressing in layers. Avoid cotton clothing and take an extra outer layer for any unexpected temperature drop.
FOOD AND WATER
You should expect to eat and drink almost twice as much while skiing or snowshoelng as you normally do. Carry water and enough food for the day's activity.
EQUIPMENT
Choose equipment that is appropriate for your outing. When Skiing on the ungroonted trails of Mt Tom, wider back country skis are recommended.
SKI IN CONTROL
Skiers must always ski in control and take personal responsibilIty for having a safe and enjoyable experience on the trail.
DOG COMPANIONS
Dogs are welcome on all ungroomed trails, but must remain on a leash at all times as a courtesy to other users and due to National Park Service regulations.
