Story:

I arrived the boat launch facilaty at 7:15am. The park gate was still closed until open at 8am. I then find a parking place close to Oakland Airport and wait until the park gate opens.

The temporature is at 37 degree F, but I did not feel cold, because the weather is very calm and the sun is up. After started kayaking, I approached to the other side and saw a large number of birds, who fly away probably because I approach them. I got several good photo shots of the birds took off.

Further into the inner harbor, it becomes narrower and I can feel the tidal current running against me. I then tried to be close to the shore, therefore I can still go about 3.5mph. At the 2 hours mark, I approached the Port of Oakland. Originally, I planned to go all the way through the inner harbor. But it is still about 3 miles to the end. So I decided to go back.

On the way back close to the 29th Ave bridge, the tidal current reversed and is running against me again. Some time I can only get about 2mph. I then crossed San Leandro Bay, looks pretty far away from the starting point. I just paddle towards the Oakland Airport Control Tower and. Compare to my small inflatable kayak, the San Leandro Bay is pretty big. Eventually, I arrived my launch point, after 4 hours and 15 minutes for almost 12 miles.

I will come back for another time to circle the Alameda Island, probably on a better kayak.
