Story:
December 1st 2011 was a glorious sunny day, Uinsionn and myself set out to hike The Children of Lir Loop Trail. The pictures tell the tale.... Mayo County Council will be making an app from the data collected. I really enjoyed this hike made all the more enjoyable by having Vincent with me.... ag labhairt Gaeilge go minic san turas! chatting away in Irish was an added bonus. The sea cliff scenery here is stupendous, it goes on and on. The beachs such as Trá Na Bhothantaí and Trá A Phoirt were bathed in sunlight and surf. We started at the Seanscoil [old school] and walked in a clockwise direction. The Blackditch Path is a great handrail to follow, an old sod bank that was put along the cliff edge many years ago to prevent cattle and sheep from going over the edge into the surf below. The cliffs vary in height from 300 feet to 1000 feet at Benwee Head. It is a jagged fierce unrelenting coastline of superb beauty. There are many tales to be told along its lenght. In time we will relate them in the app. Possibly the finest cliff walk in Ireland!!!
Tips:
Take care along the cliff edges......hiking boots essential. The distance is correct as shown. The time is your own........ depending on your stops... you will be intoxicated by the views. Bring water, snacks and rain gear we do get an odd rain shower.
