Story:
With some new snow in the local mountains I wanted to get out and do some exploring, so I chose a peak I haven't visited before. After reading, the easiest route from home was to go via Crystal Lake, so that's the way I went..... Temperatures were in the 40s when I got to the ranger station at the campground, and learned that the road was closed so I would have to walk another half-mile each way to get to the trailhead.

This is an easy trail to follow, but the signs can be a little confusing if you don't remember which trail you're supposed to be following.
Windy Gap was not too windy, and I had the only set of footprints through the snow for part of the trek to Islip summit. I was surprised to not see another hiker all day, and just as I was writing that in the summit register I heard someone else walking to the top.
I took the Islip Ridge route down - there are a LOT of downed trees along this trail, which will have you scrambling over or around frequently.
