Story:
It was my first time to go hiking in Northern Yatsugatake. One of my friends who is absolute beginner planned to join us at first, so I chose this course since we seem to be able to feel the atmosphere of high mountains despite its small difference of altitude. I was thinking quitting Mt.Tengu anytime if the beginner's pace of walking is slow and then continuously enjoying the hike with Nyu and Shirakoma pond instead of it. But he finally canceled this hike due to his family reason.. oops
I and another friend well enjoyed this hike. The atomosphere of forest was really good and I like the ridge line between Mt.Higashi-Tengu and Nishi-Tengu. But if he really came to this hike, I may have worried about the items below.
- Some points were muddy due to melted frost
- Many rocky points, he may have got tired
- It isn't so easy to walk in the trail between Nyu and Shirakoma pond
- Extra walk from Shirakoma pond to parking area
I think even beginners can make it, but it won't be so fun. Actually I talked with some other hikers, and found most beginner hikers planned to stay overnight at a lodge.

Trail Condition, Misc
No dangerous points in particular. But there are many rocky points, so beginners may get tired with its. Actually a hiker was scared with a rocky point in the trail between Nakayama pass and Nyu and hesitated to go forward. Also, boardwalks and rocks were very slippy due to frost at dawn.
