Story:
DO NOT underestimate the short distance of r.a. 0.2 miles and 17min. for climbing down to the Wailua Falls. You need a bit stamina as most of the trail is more kinda climbing than hiking, but it´s definitely worth a try.
The falls are absolute spectecular from down below.
Especially when it´s raining (which makes the trail even harder), you can see double rainbows appearing, which is sooooo amazing :)

Unfortunately all my photos are not showing what you need to expect.
Most of the trail is totally muddy and very slippery, but there are a lot of ropes, which are absolutely necessary to get down.
No way with flipflops so far.

As some guys told me, there might be another way to the falls, but hiking this one, brings you directly in front of it.

When you got down, take lots of care while climbing the big rocks and all the wood, which lies all around.
It is mostly covered with moss and very slippery.
I slipped several times and got a lot of scratches and blue marks.

Directions (http://www.world-of-waterfalls.com/hawaii-wailua-falls-kauai.html)

Driving north on Hwy 56 from Lihu'e, look for the State Hwy 583 (Ma'alo Road) turnoff just north of the one-mile post on the mauka (mountain) side of the road. Turn left and follow Hwy 583 (a recently improved two-lane road) north about four miles until it dead ends at the Wailua Falls car park.

From Kapa’a, head south for about seven miles through Hanama'ulu on Hwy 56. Stay on Hwy 56 past the two-mile post as it drops downhill. The turnoff for Hwy 583 (Ma'alo Road) is a sharp right turn, so obey the 35mph speed limit sign. Follow Ma'alo Road (Hwy 583) north for about four miles to its terminus at the waterfall car park.

Tips:
Wear good hiking shoes (no sandals !!!) and don´t wear your best suites, as you will get dirty.
It´s always good to have also a cagoule and enough water and don´t forget insect repellent.
If you will have your camera with you, fix it with a belt (if it´s a bigger one).
You´ll need both hands most of the time for climbing, crouching and holding the ropes.

Be aware that taking this hike is forbidden.
One local guy told me, that they´ll take a $280 fine, if they catch you guys!
