Sandhill Crane Access Park to Riverbend West Trails ...

Story: Community Connection, Inc. has worked with government entities to include equestrian access to the Ocean to Lake Greenway from Sandhill Crane Access Park. This is a small public park located at 8175 West PGA Blvd. on the corner of PGA and the C-18 Canal. There is limited trailer parking for boats and/or horse trailers on a first-come, first-serve basis. It is currently the only equestrian access directly bordering the Greenway that provides trailer parking. Thank you to Sandhill Crane Access Park for the new horse hitch posts, a project requested by Community Connection.
The connective equestrian trail is the Bluegill Trail (C-18E. levee road) which follows along the Loxahatchee Slough Natural Area and Palm Beach Country Estates. Local residents ride from their community to the Park and order pizza from their cell phones so it can be delivered to them on horseback when they arrive. This park also provides access to an area known by local equestrians as "Sunset Point".
Tips: There are restrooms, picnic
tables and a lookout platform. Distance from Sandhill Crane Access Park
to Riverbend Park's center equestrian entrance is approx. 5.5 miles 1
way, or 11 miles round trip. The additional Riverbend trail shown is
approx. 2.7 additional miles round trip. The average horse walk is 3
m/p/h; Walk/trot 4 m/p/h. The map stats are partially hand-drawn and
reflect a speed of 5.5 m/p/h.
