Story:
Going to Mt.Oyama with my 0 years old daughter. Actually we have a plan to travel abroad by airplane in this winter and I wanted to have practice in regards to altitude change for my baby. So the main purpose in Mt.Oyama was riding the cable car. Also I was thinking that this could be first family hike opportunity if it allows e.g. if my baby enjoys Mt.Oyama, etc.
As a result, my child looked very fine in the cable car and around Afuri shrine shimosha, so we went on a hike to the top with careful mind. During hike, there's no problem on my baby and she really looked around with curiousness and well slept on my child carrier. It looked she was in a good humor than usual. On the way I rehydrated her a bit with a spoon because I worried a bit dry air in the mountain. But fortunately our baby was really easy and fuss-free.
But these items below should be improved at next time.
Dry air
Air is comparatively dry in a mountain so I wanted to rehydrate my child more often. I was thinking we can rehydrate her with breast-feeding but it's sometimes difficult in a trail. We rehydrate with a spoon but baby bottle may be better. Moisturizing cream is needed also.
Coldness
I know baby doesn't move so actively during hike in parent's back so he/she would not become so hot like a hiker who climbing a mountain. So my baby was heavily-dressed during hike but her legs got chilled when climbing down. We didn't take breaks when climbing down so we couldn't check her conditions so often. I think hands and legs should be covered with extra warm items (e.g. globes, legs warmer).
Time
Unfortunately we arrived the mountain lately (around 11:30am) due to heavy traffic so we didn't have so much time unexpectedly. It's not good condition with a child.
And I had prepared these items in advance.
Safe baby carrier
I tried several baby carriers, then bought it. I often use my baby carrier when walking around neighborhood and we both got used to use it as usual. It has durable frames inside it and safe.
Sun rays
I bought a shading equipment made for this baby carrier. Too many sun rays aren't good for babies. I have a equipment for rain also.
Neck protection
I bought a cushion which was made for the baby carrier.
Diaper change
I brought a fleece sheet and folding umbrella. The umbrella was for protection of wind but we didn't use it at this time.
Breast-feeding
We brought the cape for breast-feeding
Warmer clothes
My baby was heavily-dressed during hike. Nit cap + underwear + warm baby cloth + fleece. But we needed extra warm items for hands and legs.
Backpack weight and my stamina
It was probably over 10kg. I've known I can bring it very steadily in Mt.Oyama. As a result, actually I brought my wife's backpack too when climbing up and down.
By the way, we saw probably 4 other families who brought the baby during hike. Many children in Mt.Oyama actually..
And the huge blind spot at this time was my wife's stamina which has weakened unexpectedly after baby born. Her pace of walking was slower than before. Actually we missed the last cable car when climbing down because of the slow pace and too long break at the top of Mt.Oyama. We walked down in the dark trail at nightfall. Rocky trail was tough for my wife. We need rehabilitative hike for her.
