Story:
Nicks Lake, just south of the Old Forge/Thendara, NY region, is a challenging 4 1/2 mile (7.2km) mountain biking ride that is deceptive in its technical and endurance requirements when first seen on a map.

If starting the ride clockwise from the NY state campground, the trail begins with about 1/2 mile of very tricky root step-ups and drops.  One would have to be  extremely talented to be able to clean all of these obstacles without dabbing or all-together jumping off the bike momentarily.

About 1/3 of the way around you are greeted with a few rock gardens, a wooden bridge that crosses one of the streams into the lake, and then a difficult climb made up of loose and wet stone.

Once at the top of that climb, you are granted a reprieve by way of rolling, wide singletrack that allows your heart rate time to recover.

The last third of the trail consists of lots of short, steep climbs and descents, and many more root step-ups and drops.

This trail will certainly test your technical abilities.
Tips:
Most obstacles and difficult sections have a line through it.  Ride the line and you should clean many of them.
