Boone Fork Trail - North Carolina, United States

Story:
Boone Fork Trail is in/near Julian Price Memorial Park on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The park and trail are maintained by the National Park Service. I took the North route directly toward Boone Fork which the trail follows for nearly 3 miles. After that you will cross several tributary streams that feed into Boone Fork. The hike is not strenuous due to severe elevation changes but you really have to watch where you're going because there are a lot of washouts, wet, boggy places and lots of exposed roots along the trail. If it has rained recently, you might want to reconsider taking this trail. It's a great scenic hike with lots of water features, rhododendron and other Blue Ridge Mountain plant species. I did not see any animals other than birds.

Since this trail is next to/part of the Julian Price Memorial Park there are plenty of great picnic areas around and Boone Fork meanders through them. It's a great place for the kids to play in the water without fear of drowning if they at least know to stand up if they fall. The water is chilly even in the summer so be prepared.

Enjoy the hike!
Tips:
1) There are places where hiking poles are useless and others where they're very handy.
2) I don't recommend this trail after a rain.
3) Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at the park.
4) Gore-Tex boots are recommended because there are lots of places to ford the stream and lots of mucky places.
