Story:
Ascent (nearly) of Grand Paradiso as planned Mont Blanc climb was not possible due to rock falls / high winds. Thwarted near to summit by fierce winds which kept blowing us all over.
The summit attempt featured:
Vic 'the goat rider'
Billy 'the kip'
Ed 'the card shark'
Alan 'the confused caver'
Paul 'the silver biker'
Herbert 'the garlic man'
Hannes 'the red bull'
Phil 'the rules' Diggler
Dave 'the crevasse skipper'
NB. I guessed mapping for top of trail as battery ran out, but we finished somewhere on the final ridge before discretion conquered valour.
Tips:
Easy walk to hut on good trails then exhausting glacier trek on crampons. Glacier is heavily crevassed and quite steep.

Probably pretty straightforward to get to summit in good weather. Beautiful scenery along the way and trails were in good condition until the ice.
The hut on the way up - Refuge Chabon - is lovely with comfortable rooms, good food and great views.
Some tricky glacier stuff - the tiptoe snow bridge and double glacier jump will remain in the memory...
