We started the morning dark and early, getting to Bryce Point to watch the sun rise. We then headed down to the lodge for breakfast before heading out on our hike at around 10 o'clock.
The hike down is a breeze. Lots of switchbacks make it easy to move along, and after about an hour, we turned a corner and realized that we were directly across from Bryce Point, and already at the halfway point of our hike! After that, it was slow going. The sun got higher, the trail got warmer and every little switchback was a trek.
This is most definitely a strenuous hike, especially if you start at Bryce Point. We talked to another pair of hikers who started at a different location (I think they said Queen-something) and said that it was a much more gradual trail down. Take heed of the map's advice and pack plenty of water and a hat. The trail is awfully dusty, too, so unless you're fond of a powdery red coat, hiking pants might be a good thing.
