This is a beautiful day trip with amazing view of southern Ticino, the lake Maggiore and Locarno, Ascona. You can take a the cable car from downtown Locarno to Orselina, just above Locarno, and then take another cable car to the top of the mountain. The arrival has been designed by the famous Swiss architect Mario Botta. From there are several walk easy trails or you can take another cable car to go to the top - highly recommend as the views are just spectacular. From the top of the mountain you can walk back to the main cable car which will take about 1 hour or you can descent with a cable car. I'm originally from Ticino and have traveled the world many times over but wen I go back I always appreciate the beauty and hospitality of southern Ticino. Enjoy and hope this will help.

Tips:
You can wear mountain boots but heavy sneakers if you want to walk down the mountain are fine as well. Very easy walk.
