Story:
I hadn't done this hike since 2006 I think, but this was my third time. Mike and Dwayne hadn't been here before though and I knew they'd like it.

It's a short hike at around 4 miles RT. On the way up to the old fire lookout area the elevation gain is around 1500', and the trail is virtually all uphill. So this is short but good exercise, which was just what we wanted on a hot Independence Day weekend.

We took the side trail to the great little overlook where there's a wooden bench to sit and enjoy the view. I call this spot Eagle Rock Eyrie, so named by my late friend Bud Gawlik who introduced me any many others to it.

Closer to the trailhead, when you come down the first - and only - downhill section, by the stream there is an old cabin, see gallery.
Tips:
There's not much room for parking, but also there usually aren't many people out here. No facilities.

Besides the old fire lookout, it's worth climbing up the nearby rock peak. Maybe not if you have small kids though. Be careful, watch for snakes, enjoy the great views.
