Story:

9 days, 8 nights through the back roads of Laos.  14-22 March, 2011

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Day 6 : Saravan to Attapeu 204 Kms. First leg of today's ride Salavan -Paksong on paved road. Comfortable ride to reach the Bolaven highlands, craddle of the coffee growers. Left the paved road to start a long ride on barely visible tracks in the dense jungle. We are still using the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Cannot imagine what it would look like during the rainy season. Impassable. After a long day we finally crossed a river and reached Route 18 A (although marked red on our charts, that Route was a dirt road, no more). We had to ride about 45 km East to reach Attapu just after night fall. Overnight in a 1/2* hotel, nevertheless with A/C and WiFi. Let's give it 2* !! Over dinner we debated if we wanted a little luxury and rest for half a day tomorrow. We agreed that we should leave early in order to arrive at destination the next day at around 2 p.m. at La Folie resort on the Mekong river. ;=))
