Story:
Fox River Paddle. It was a little cold out today. At the beginning of my trip it was 31 degrees. When I finished it was 35 degrees. The river was at flood stage. This water level is my favorite on this stretch. It allows me to paddle within a few feet of the shore. When paddling so close to shore I always see more wildlife and I wasn't disappointed today either. I think it was about 4.5 feet at McHenry Dam Tail-waters. I averaged about 2.5 mph upstream and about 4.5 mph back. The wind was 15 mph blowing downstream. The birds were out in full. I saw Teal, Wood Duck, Cormorants , Swans, Heron, King Fishers and 2 different types of Gulls. I took a picture of a Mink swimming next to the canoe. I didn't know they could swim so fast! I was the only boat out on the water today. I paddled my Clipper Sea 1 Canoe.
