Joost Schreve - Founder and CEO
Joost is an avid travel enthusiast. Some of his fondest memories
include hitchhiking on a sailing boat from The Philippines to Hong
Kong and climbing with his skis above 8,000 meters (26,000 ft) in
the Himalayas. Moreover, he has always pushed the boundaries of
communication technology when out on trips. His friends still make
fun of Joost when they remember him carrying around satellite
modems, laptops and solar panels to the world's remotest areas, to
update his websites in real-time. They are not surprised that he is
now making a business out of his passion.
Prior to EveryTrail, Joost worked at Yahoo!, Fredhopper, Renault
and ClickAction. He holds a MSc. Engineering from Delft University
in the Netherlands and an MBA from Stanford University in
California.
Dan Seligson - COO
Dan brings decades of experience and success to the team. In the
last of his 17 years at Intel, he was GM of an internal startup
called Display Technology Investments. After leaving in 2001, he has
been an investor in, advisor to, executive of, or Board Member of
more than 20 startups. He has screened over 1000 deals for the Band
of Angels since he became a member in 2004. He received his
education at MIT (BSc, Physics) and University of California,
Berkeley (PhD, Physics). Dan is also passionate about travel and
technology. He's trekked the Karakoram in Pakistan, climbed the
Moose's Tooth (and Denali, too, of course) in the Alaska Range, and
raced a windsurfer around Martha's Vineyard. Most recently he took
his road bike across Bhutan.
Werner Altewischer - Software Architect and Developer
Werner has 10 years of experience in software development and
architecture. He designed and implemented large scale, clustered
applications for different companies and has developed in serveral
different programming languages, including Java, C#, C++, C and
objective C. For EveryTrail he advises the setup of the server
environment, database and implementation details. He also does some
development himself, including the EveryTrail recording application
for the iPhone. In his free time, he is a big outdoor enthusiast and
he can be found cycling on the road bike, moutain bike, running or
hiking.
Chris McCarty - Lead developer
Chris has a passion for the latest cutting edge web technologies,
including AJAX, PHP, MySQL and APIs. He is the brains behind the
interactive web pages on EveryTrail that allow users to do
everything they want with their GPS data. When he is not impressing
the EveryTrail team with the latest features, he is studying towards
his Computer Science Degree at Stanford University.
Adam Schneider - Lead developer
Adam joined the worldwide Internet community in 1992, while an
undergraduate at the University of California at Santa Cruz. In
1996, Adam co-authored Prentice Hall's The Web Server Handbook. From
the late 1990s through today, Adam has worked with a number of
Internet ventures developing interactive on-line mapping
applications.
Adam launched GPSVisualizer.com in 2002 as a simple exercise to
translate GPS coordinates into a scalable vector graphics (SVG)
drawing. GPSVisualizer has since evolved into the leading consumer
GPS website offering a suite of powerful "do-it-yourself" on-line
mapping utilities.
Chad Taylor - VP Product
Chad's passion for exploring the world started while traveling
the US playing soccer as a kid. He's now been to over 30 countries
and is always looking for the next great adventure. Nowadays, this
usually means searching for some remote snowboarding destination in
the far reaches of the globe. A recent trip to Kashmir was
definitely an experience he'll never forget as he and some friends
enjoyed 4k vertical feet of lift-served heli-ski conditions for two
weeks in Himalayan powder. Needless to say, Chad's family is usually
very happy that he carries a GPS so they can share all of these
"fond" memories on EveryTrail. Well, that is, except for the time
his mom found out that he strapped his skis to his motorcycle and
rode to Tahoe...
Prior to EveryTrail, Chad worked at Accenture (formerly Andersen
Consulting), SquareTrade, and as an independent contractor for other
consumer internet companies. He holds a Bachelor's degree in
Operations Research and Industrial Engineering from Cornell
University.
Per Enge - Advisor
Per Enge is a Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics at
Stanford University, where he is the Kleiner-Perkins, Mayfield,
Sequoia Capital Professor in the School of Engineering. He directs
the GPS Research Laboratory, which develops satellite navigation
systems based on the Global Positioning System (GPS).
Per has received the Kepler, Thurlow and Burka Awards from the
Institute of Navigation (ION) for his work. He is also a Fellow of
the ION and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
(IEEE). He received his PhD from the University of Illinois in 1983
Hap Klopp - Advisor
Hap founded the North Face company back in the sixties, because
he wanted to combine his passion for the outdoors with building a
great business. He oversaw the growth of the North Face brand for
more than 20 years until he sold the company. Hap is now focusing on
helping entrepreneurs create successful and sustainable businesses
in the outdoor, technology and travel industries.
Mark Duff - Advisor
Mark is EveryTrail's resident e-Commerce guru. He's been in the
retail business for 15 years, most recently as Director of Web
Strategy at REI, the world's largest outdoor retailer. Mark's
passion for the web, for business development of all flavors, and
for the outdoors makes him a perfect fit for the EveryTrail Team.
When he's not out consulting with e-Business clients, Mark can be
found surfing the Washington coast with his wife and two young
daughters.
