Stinson Beach to Mount Tamalpais Summit... and back
by Vaudesir on Mar 21, 2010
Stinson Beach, California, United States
Hiking | 15.2 miles
I've been meaning to do this hike for quite some time. In addition to everything nice about it (the flowers, the views, the climb, the length, the company), it just seemed meaningful.Since several of us were considering that hike, it was just a matter of picking a date. Barbara and Pavla called it, and there we went.We started on the Stinson Beach parking lot shortly after 9:30 and took Dipsea trail to...

Ohlone Wilderness Trail
by Vaudesir on May 09, 2009
Scotts Corner, California, United States
Backpacking | 29 miles
After having hiked a portion of the Ohlone Wilderness trail from Lake Del Valle to Murietta Falls last February, I felt compelled to hike the full 28 miles of this trail, connecting Lake Del Valle to Stanford Avenue in Fremont, which is the west-facing foot of Mission Peak. This sure seemed challenging. 28 miles is long, even over two days. The climb to Rose Peak is strenuous for sure. And then, Mission Peak comes as a "bonus".After doing a...

Mission Trails Regional Park - Clairemont Mesa to Fortuna Saddle & South Fortuna Mountain Summit Loop
by marxus on Mar 24, 2011
San Diego, California, United States
Hiking | 5.4 miles
We set out on this hike the day after a really soaking overnight rain.. and we paid for it! The Fortuna Saddle Trail was so muddy, slippery, and slow going through the valley that I thought more than once about turning around and heading back for the car.. but I'm glad I didn't in the end. I will say that the mud through this area was heavy with sticky clay that stuck...

3 pools beyond 7 falls
by shice on Feb 05, 2011
Santa Barbara, California, United States
Hiking | 1.9 miles
Seven Falls is in a beautiful, sculpted gorge in Mission Canyon. Mission Creek cascades down the canyon and over boulders, creating more than a dozen waterfalls. The waterfalls drop into bowls etched into the sandstone rock, forming deep, rock-rimmed pools.Read more at Trails.com: Seven Falls and Inspiration Point | Santa Barbara California Hikes | Trails.com http://www.trails.com/tcatalog_trail.aspx?trailid=HGS359-015#ixzz1DHx3boy1

The Mission Trails 5 Peak Hike
by roywarfield on Aug 03, 2010
San Diego, California, United States
Hiking | 15.1 miles
The Codgery took on the five peaks of Mission Trails Regional Park today and  prevailed.  Of course we cheated a little bit with some well planned car rides from one site to another, but none the less we climbed all 5 peaks in one day.  The hike started at the Cowles Mt staging area at Golfcrest and Navajo and proceeded to the Cowles summit and then on to Pyles peak.  Then we descended...

Monument Peak Through Hike

Hiking | 9.7 miles
A nice hike across the ridge with some good friends on a wonderful springlike day in January,  temps must have been pushing 75F at times.    The main trail was ridiculously packed today as was parking down below.  We ended up parking .4 miles from the entrance at the first available spot.     We avoided the freeway up to Mission by taking the Horse Heaven route,  considerably steeper but only saw maybe 6 other people...

The mission was to try to find a way to connect from the east side trails of Scott’s Run to the Potomac Heritage Trail. No luck even after bushwhacking but got to some really nice unmarked overlooks of the Potomac River.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Today I summited Mt. Hood, the highest point in Oregon at 11,240 feet.  My climbing partners were Matt, Jason, and Drew from CMRU and Justin Broderson from OSU.  It was a first summit for Drew, Justin, and I while Matt has been up several times before. We drove up late Saturday night to camp overnight in our vehicles in the Timberline Ski Area Parking lot.  We arrived to find ourselves nestled among news...

This is a moderate hike in Mission Trails Regional Park.  Start at the Visitor Center, get a map and head out the Visitor Center Loop.  Go to the Jackson Crossing, up the hill and follow the signage to the Quarry Loop.  There are amazing views of South Fortuna and Kwaay Paay.  Follow the Quarry Loop and head back the same way, taking the Visitor Center Loop the opposite direction.  Had a marvelous...

Geocaching | 14.3 miles
About 3 years ago I did this hike with a group ... and failed miserably.  I was incredibly out of shape and couldn't handle the vertical.  I've wanted to go back and try it again for some time.  Joe agreed to come along. There are three peaks in a row here ... Monument, Allison and Mission.  Of the three, Mission is by far the most famous.  But once you've climbed to one ......

Hiking | 6.6 miles
I grew up in Fremont (Warm Springs district near Mission Blvd. and Warm Springs Blvd.), and remember hiking up to Mission Peak several times as a kid -- 1966/1967 -- when it was private property and there were legends of ranchers shooting at trespassers with shotguns filled with rock salt.  We never saw any angry ranchers.  We did blaze our own trails wearing only blue jeans, t-shirts and tennis shoes. We mostly followed...

Mission Peak - Pre-dawn hike
by edgarstiles on Jan 17, 2011

Hiking | 6.0 miles
First time up Mission Peak. I thought I would try to catch the sunrise. This is a very popular trail, as it is close to San Jose. I got there around 6:00, and there were already several cars in the lot. When I came back down, around 9, the lot was completely full. There are a lot of bootleg trails, so be careful, especially in the dark.It was really foggy this morning. If you...
