Hiking | 1.8 miles
There are six sets of granite steps in Beachwood Canyon, below the Hollywood Sign. These historic landmarks were built in the 1920's when Hollywoodland was created, and they link high streets and low streets in the hills. This trail links them all together for a good cardio workout that takes about an hour. Go in the morning or evening to avoid the heat!

Our trek began at Bear Mountain State Park where we started to hike around Roe Pond. As we entered the first mile we experienced a steady but easy incline. As we entered the second and third mile we experienced a growing incline, where we had to crawl up large boulders/rocks to get to our check points. When we reached the peak, we hiked approximately 1,300 ft. vertically. The trek down was a...

some of this text from Hiking in Palm Springs: Painted Canyon, in the heart of the hills, exhibits many mineral deposits in hues of rose, pink, red, purple and green. Keen eyed wildflower enthusiasts will also find the rare Mecca aster, a lilac tinted bloom resembling a daisy. Along the rim of the canyon and...

Backpacking | 26 miles
David and I were ready to try some snow camping in Yosemite this weekend, but the weather report had other plans.  It was set to rain on the first day in Yosemite, and we decided that camping in snow while being rained on did not sound like a good use of a weekend (hopefully we will get some clear skies soon!).  Since we had psyched ourselves up for a backpacking trip for...

I've been meaning to do this hike for quite some time. Hiking | 2.5 miles
We got a tip from our teammate that this was his favorite hike, and and although it was difficult to find (park before the bridge that leads to the golf course), we eventually found the trail head. The man at the gate was extremely helpful despite challenging us by telling us marines finish the entire thing in about 90 minutes (and Recons in 45). We were also warned that some boars had recently...

Hiking | 3.8 miles
A fun hike for hot days.  You will get wet!  There are several waterfalls you must climb.  There are ropes that have been placed to assist in the climb, but it can still be quite tricky due to the slippery rock face.  The first waterfall weeds out a lot of the hikers.  Coming down the waterfalls is quite fun.  They have natural water slides.  We stopped at the 3rd climb but there...
