Also, quite a few of the other caches were replacements for old now archived caches, so I can remember finding the originals too.We had a great walk with the main things of note being finding one of the caches in a tree that had blown down in the strong winds last night, and also bumping into simplysup and Team Pendolino along the way. A pleasure to meet other cachers while out, as always.By the end we were all ready for a sit down as it's a longer walk than we're usually used to. Really good fun though with a big variety of things to see along the way.

Manchester to Sanford: TOM158, 30th August 2011

Our flight on a B767-300 from Manchester to Sanford on 30th August 2011.The flight routed to the south of the normal track over Newfoundland due to Hurricane Irene. This is a set of caches along the Silkin Way on the north side of Telford.I met up with PSPCachers (Phil) in Leegomery and left the Jeep there (to ferry us back to the starting point at the end of the day). We then drove over to near cache no79 in Malinslee and met up with the others: basketcase crew (Ian), the griswalds n dogs (Shan) and [monki] (Ash). We set off on our bikes, making quick work of the caches with so many eyes looking for them. We were all delighted to get a FTF on #73 on the way past.We left Shan at no69 as she needed to head off to work, but hoped to meet up with us again later on. We then worked our way along the trail not really having any problems with any, but having great fun and banter as we went.We managed to bag another FTF on #37 later on in the day and then met up with Shan again by #32 (which I'd already found last Saturday evening). We then carried on to the last cache of the trail left to do - #31. Great fun was had here as you have to all disappear into bushes at the base of a big tree to get it and I bet we looked well dodgy (to say the least!).We then left Ian by cache #33 waiting for his life home and headed off back in the Jeep to the starting point of the day to pick up the other cars.A fab day in fab company and some great caches. I managed 36 finds, but some of the others managed over 50 as we stopped to do ones I'd already found along the way.

Caching in Catshill and just north of Redditch

On Sunday Isaac and myself headed for the area to the SW of Birmingham around Catshill and Bromsgrove. This is an area that has a never-ending supply of new caches to find!We started off with the final Bailey Rangers series which was close to the M5 junction. A nice set of caches in a different environment to their other series, which were more woodlandy (is that a word?). On the way round we bumped into Shortmat. Great to see you both again. After we'd finished here we headed off for a few urban caches in Catshill. A bit of a mixed bag here as the first one had a broken container and was very soggy. The next one was in a passage between two streets with houses overlooking on both sides and the cache was nowhere to be seen. We soon gave up as it's not our kind of caching really.Next, we headed off southwards to do the last Burcot Eight cache, which was muggled when we did the rest of the series but which has now been replaced in a new location. We carried on to do a few caches to the NW of Redditch before hitting the main walk of the day - the Unlucky For Some Series. This is a series of 13 caches put out by the Webbies to celebrate their son's 13th birthday. A great walk and some fun caches, especially one about half way round that was a very sneaky hide.Once we'd finished we did a few more caches near Earlswood before getting back on the M42 and heading home.A great day out with 40 finds and some fun caches.

A Day Out Caching in West Lancashire and Chorley

On Saturday Isaac could not come caching so I opted for a day caching around West Lancashire on my own. I planned to start off with the Pigsy caches to the east of Skelmersdale and then head off north towards Mawdesley and then see how much time I had left.I had a fab time caching around the Pigsy caches with some of the best presented caches we've seen. All decent sized boxes hidden in nice place. This is how all caches should be! The views over towards Winter Hill from just about every cache were great too!Next, I headed off towards Mawdesley as I'd heard the cache outside the Police station in the village was a must do. I won't say too much about it so as not to spoil it for others, but it was well worth it for the cheeky hide. The others in the area were a bit so, so, but they all count for a smiley and I was having fun exploring areas we've been to before but not for a while now.I still had loads of time left so headed off towards Charnock Richard near Chorley to do a nice circular walk based around military aircraft built in the UK over the last century. I smiled when I saw the name of the road they start on - German Lane ;-). I had a great time on the walk and was really enjoying the lovely peace and quiet and fun caches.Once I'd finished these, I bagged a few more caches to the south of Chorley around Coppull before getting on the M6 heading for home. On the way down the M6 I stopped to bag various caches near motorway exits that we usually just drive past as we've no time to stop. A stop off at Lymm and Keele Services (where I treated myself to a Starbucks as well as a cache) and then a quick one near Junction 15. 67 finds for the day, a fantastic day out and some good caches and walking too.

Shifnal series, new Lapley Loop and an event near Eccleshall

On Saturday myself and Isaac decided to head for the By Ecc, An Event! event cache at Copmere, close to Eccleshall. We'd heard there would be 28 caches put out for the event, so just had to find some caches to do in the morning before the event.A new series just to the SW of Shifnal that had come out during the week looked perfect. Even better, just about the whole route was bikeable! We picked a parking spot by cache #8 and got the bikes out. A great ride round the series and all nice quick finds with good co-ords. On the way round, we caught up with g6lpb (Bob) - great to meet you!We still had a bit of time before the event started, so we picked off three new caches that had been added to the Lapley Loop on the way.Once at the event, the caches had already been released and g6lpb, -Ako-, hardy clan and langcliffe45 were hanging back to do the walk with us. Perfect! We had a great walk round the caches in really good company. Most were quick finds, but a few were a bit trickier, but not too tricky.Back at the event, quite a few people had already gone home as it was about 5:30pm but lots of friends were still there so we enjoyed a good natter with everyone. On the way home we diverted off to get the last event cache, which was a Multi not too far from the pub. As we pulled up we spotted The Washers, Tizzie and The Haywood Hornet looking for stage 1. We all joined forces and the cache was soon found.56 finds for the day, perfect caching weather, good caches, a great bike ride, a fab walk and above all great company of other cachers. What a good day out.

North Wales Caching

On Saturday myself and Isaac decided as the weather was forecast to be great, we'd head for North Wales as some great walking in lovely countryside with the sun on our backs sounded perfect. We started off at Team Marzipan's Loopy series near Caerwys which is a circular walk with a few other caches around the loop on dead-ends. A really lovely walk with a few ups and down's (well, it is Wales after all and it's not flat) and lovely scenery. The caches were really fun too, with lots of unusual containers and surprises. After we'd finished these, we arrived back at the Jeep and opted to do a few drive-by's as we did not really have a plan where to go next other than to head in the general direction of Chester so we did not get any further away from home. These drive-by's turned into a bit of a numbers fest as we were thoroughly enjoying the intensity of rapid fire caching. We did do a few short walks to caches during the rest of the day but the second longer circular walk never quite materialised. Not a problem though as we had a great time and ended up with 60 finds for the day, whilst still being back home for tea at the normal time. The last cache of the day was a Challenge cache near Mold where you had to find two caches on two different continents in two successive days. We'd achieved that on the way back from New York in February so the rest of the cache was easy.Another great day out.

Goosey Trail / Wild Goosey Chase - Day 1

We'd heard that a big series of 78 caches was due out at 8am on Sunday morning, so arranged to meet up with Allun from the Shropshire Seekers in the center of Telford with laptops at 7:45am to get them as they were published. We did not know any more than this (which was also posted on Facebook by the cache owner) so were wondering what was in store for us!Sure enough, bang on 8am the Inbox started pinging with new cache notifications. I had set up a PQ in advance but once the caches were all out, this never ran so I ended up having to set a new PQ up there and then. This took an age to run and some half an hour after the caches were out, we were on our way. With so many caches over such an area, we had no idea where to start so opted for Telford Town Park as it was still early and we knew the area would be teeming with muggles later on as the weather was beautiful. After that we decided to head off to Madeley Court Hotel and cycle the southern loop of the series down to Blists Hill and back.We had a great start and found the caches easily enough. A few were a bit off the co-ords but not too hard to find. As we were nearing the end of the top loop, the cache owners called to see where we were up to. They had started at the same place as us but gone a different way round, so managed to bag a few FTF's for their daughters, son and grandson (who they were walking round with and who all have their own caching accounts). We then headed off to Madeley Court Hotel for the southern loop and this is where we came unstuck as this section of caches was MUCH harder and a lot of the co-ords were quite a bit off, meaning a long search at virtually every cache.I forgot to get photos of Isaac with the cache at each cache as we were so involved finding them, but I've included the ones I did get.36 finds and 20 DNF's for the day. Great fun overall but the DNF's and lengthy searches without hints and knowing the co-ords may well be odd was a bit frustrating.

Nantwich, Heslby, Frodsham and an event in Northwich

On Saturday there was a North West Cachers Monthly Meet in Northwich, so we planned out day around ending up at the event. We started off with a nice circular by the Shropshire Union Canal near to lovely Nantwich. A great ride round on our bikes and no problems with the caches.Next, we headed off to Helsby to make a start on the RaverDave and Helsby Leisurely Walks series on the Helsby Marshes. For these we got the bikes out again as the route pretty much followed Restricted Byways the whole way round, with a few quiet lanes towards the end. No problems here and we soon had the bonus cache for the Leisurely Walks series in hand. On the way round we bumped into Geocache Hound (who we'd also meet later on at the event). Great to meet you.Next, we headed off down the road to Frodsham so make a start on the interesting looking Frodsham Cluedo series. This is based around the board game and involved visiting themes locations (e.g. Library at the local library, Billiard Room at the youth centre) to pick up cards that an opponent in the board game might show you. Eventually you have enough information to make an accusation on whodunnit and thus find the bonus cache. Great fun and a fab idea for a series.Once we'd finished these we realised we were only about 7 caches off 50 finds for the day, so set about finding another 6 on the way to Northwich so as the event could be our 50th find of the day. No problems here and we were soon at the event. The event was great and we had a good natter with familiar and new people before heading off home for our tea.50 finds for the day, virtually all day on our bikes, fun caches and beautiful weather... oh, and an event. Later that evening the Rowney Green Loop series was published nearby - perfect as we could add that to the plans! We started off with the Bordesley Park Loop series which was a lovely walk in a reasonably circular way around some lovely countryside. At the second cache we got a shock as we found to two pots with two logbooks. One turned out to be an archived cache that used to be hidden at the same place! Got to love a twofer ;-).After we'd finished here we headed off for the Rowney Green Loop, a series of 16 caches on an elliptical route just south of the M42. The highlights of this walk were the fab views from by a cached called "Cooking With Gas!" and bumping into the cache owner dadu13 later in the walk. Great to meet you. After we'd finished this walk, we headed over to the NW side of Redditch for a drive-by series called Brockhill Circuit. I'm not sure if it's meant to be a drive-by series but they were all next to roads so it looked like it might be.Finally we managed one last cache near the M42 Hopwood services before heading to the services themeselves for a well-=deserved Starbucks. 51 finds for the day and a great day out with Isaac. The weather even behaved itself until the very last cache, which we had to run to to avoid getting wet.

A clearout of Telford caches

On Saturday I dropped Isaac off at school and then set about clearing up the new Telford area caches that had come out while I was in the USA last week.I started off in Ketley, then made my way to the Rock and then onwards to near Bilsts Hill for some excellent caches in the Ironbridge area.It was then back up towards Telford Town Center and then onwards to Donnington. Last cache of the morning was in Leegomery, where I bumped into Big Farmer Giles, Wild Goosey and the Aegean Trekkers.13 finds for the morning and Telford clear one again (for now!).

Orlando to Manchester - Virgin Atlantic 76

The full track of our flight from Orlando to Manchester on 27 March 2011.

Manchester to Orlando: Virgin Atlantic 75

The full track of our flight from Manchester to Orlando on 22 March 2011.

Lioncache, Leopardcache, Foxcache and a few other caches near to Wigan

On Sunday myself and Isaac headed to the area between Wigan and Leigh to make a start on the many circular (yet a bit random) walks in the area. I say random as some of the walks are not quite circular and involve caches dotted all over the place with no pattern to them.We started with Lioncache which is a elogated walk along an ex-railway line and then back along fields and past woods. The whole area is an ex-mining area and there were plenty of signs of industry past on the walk. After this we went off to do the Leopardcache series just to the north of where we'd been earlier. This was a great walk mainly over open farmland. On the way we spotted some cachers ahead and caught them in the act, cache in hand. It was elspinhope and superbadger - great to meet you all. After we'd done that series, we drove round to the Foxcache series and set off on foot. This was an area we'd been to for caching ages ago so partly familiar. A great walk around was had, with the highlight being a really fin Earthcache at the old coal slag heaps where you had to use a stone to break a piece of coal in two and describe the inside of it. Isaac had great fun with this. After we'd finished on these, we headed off for some quick drive-by's in Ashton in Makerfield and over towards Garswood before getting on the M6 for the journey home.50 finds for the day and lots of great walking.

Bishop Bennet Way series 1 and 2, plus a few other caches around Winsford

On Sunday myself and Isaac headed off to mid Cheshire to do the two Bishops Bennet Way series that had come out recently. Great to see some new circular walks in lovely countryside not too far from home!We started with series 2 which was a circular walk of 20 caches plus a bonus just NW of Malpas. A lovely walk and some great views over to the Welsh hills in the distance. After that, we headed off for series 1 which is right in the shadow of Beeston Castle and involved a walk out along public footpaths with the return journey following a canal (but not actually on the towpath of the canal). After we'd done these we still had some spare time so headed off towards Winsford to grab a few more caches. We ended the day with 42 finds and had had some lovely walks in great countryside and some sun too. All the caches were easy finds except #18 (I resorted to a PAF) and #5 which was on private land and had been muggled. On the way round I bumped into Tizzie and Slicker55 as I was deliberately doing the series in reverse. Great to meet you both!22 finds for the morning.
