A very nice and confortabule bike ride near Ruzin dam. Unfortunately I do not have a full GPS track due to weak GPS signal.

Walking Zadielska Gorge

We had very pleasant visit at our house - my mother & grandfather. My mammy likes very much not too complicated walking trips. Because of this fact, Zadiel Gorge is one of best options near Kosice.

Zádiel Gorge (popularly called the Valley) is a monumental rocky canyon with a depth of nearly 400 m, a length of 3 km with the narrowest width of the bottom 10 m. George is located in the Slovak Karst in the village Zádiel in the Kosice region. It is created by water flowing Blatno Creek. Since 1954 the area (acreage of 214.73 hectares) is National natural monument. "Cukrova homola" is the highest towerlike rock unit in Slovakia. [wikipedia]

The Slovak Karst (Slovak: Slovenský kras) is one of the mountain ranges of the Slovenské rudohorie Mountains in the Carpathians in southern Slovakia. It consists of a complex of huge karst plains and plateaus. Since 1973 it was a protected landscape area. On 1 March 2002 Slovak Karst National Park was declared. It is also a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and part of it forms UNESCO World Heritage site Caves of Aggtelek Karst and Slovak Karst.

Slovak Karst National Park (Národný park Slovenský kras) is a national park in the Slovak Karst (Slovenský kras) mountain range in South East Slovakia. It lies in the Gelnica, Rožňava and Košice–okolie districts in the Košice region. The National Park covers an area of 346.11 km² (133.64 mi²) and its buffer zone covers 117.41 km² (45.33 mi²).

The park was established on 1 March 2002, after being a protected landscape area since 1973. Slovak Karst is the first Slovak biosphere reserve since 1 March 1977, when it was included in the UNESCO's Programme on Man and the Biosphere. In 1995, 12 out of 700 caves from the park were recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Cergov the mountain which is situated in the northern part of Slovakia. This mountain adjacent to the east to Ondavská hills, south of Kosice basin and Šarišské hills to the west of Levočské hills and mountains in the north of the Pieniny and the lower part of the north side is the state border with Poland. Cergov whole mountain is composed of Flysch base and is oriented from north to south. Highest peaks are Minčol (1 157 m), Great Javorina(1 098 m), Bukový hill (1 010 m), Lysa (1 068 m), Solisko (1 056 m), Cergov (1 050 m), shoestring top ( 920 m) and Tyličské saddle (688 m).

A short hike with my colleagues to Dead Bat's Cave.

"The Dead Bats’ Cave belongs among the largest and most important high mountain caves in Slovakia. It is situated in the central part of the Low Tatras in the Ďumbier high mountain karst (1,750 m above the sea). The relatively small, deeply folded limestone massif of the Kozie Chrbty 2 km long and 300 m wide, contains a lot of passages inside spread over by now known 14 levels and two parallel branches. The biggest underground space - Bystrický Dome, is located on the 7^th level at the depth of 180 m, having the volume of 52,500 m³.

One of the cave specialities is the occurrence of volcanic rocks of Cretaceous age infolded in the limestone strata. They appear in cave passages in several places where they show by red-brown or green colour. The volcanic rock contains lenses of agates of white-pink hue. Another speciality are the findings of bat bones, which appear almost everywhere and by which the cave received its name. Their age is estimated to 6,000 years. Skeleton remains of martens, bears and goats were found in the entrance parts of the cave.

The average air temperature of the cave is +3,5 °C, however some seasonally glaciated parts have the annual average only +1 °C. Air flow movement reaches 5 m/s because of the open character of the cave." [source]

A classic West Tatras hike to the highest mountain in the Western Tatras in Slovakia, near the Polish border. It is 2,248 meters high and surrounded by the valleys of Kamenistá, Račkova and Bystrá.

Lake Neusiedl (German: Neusiedlersee; Hungarian: Fertő tó; Croatian: Nežidersko jezero, Niuzaljsko jezero) is the second largest steppe lake in Central Europe, straddling the Austrian–Hungarian border. The lake covers 315 km², of which 240 km² is on the Austrian side and 75 km² on the Hungarian side. The lake's drainage basin has an area of about 1,120 km². From north to south, the lake is about 36 km long, and it is between 6 km and 12 km wide from east to west. On average, the lake's surface is 115.45 m above the Adriatic Sea and the lake is no more than 1.8 m deep.

Autumn hike with my friend Peter Sasvari. We chose "Veľký Sokol" (Big Falcon), the classic tourist destination in "Slovenský Raj" (Slovak Paradise).

Big Falcon A robust and long ravine at the western end of the Gľac plateau. At the end of the ravine, there is situated the Róth ravine, named after one of the most famous Slovak Paradise guides. Both banks of the ravine have the shape of very steep stone walls that are up to 300 m high. The first passage through the ravine was realised by Prof. M. Róth, Dr. N. Filarský and M. Karoliny on August 20, 1898. One month later the same group replenished by the art photographer, Mr. R. Forberg, overpassed the ravine for the second time. Mr. Forberg´s photos were the first photos of the Slovak Paradise ravines. In 1956, the Mountain Rescue Service members put the first metal ladders into the ravine. A memorial board was placed to the entrance of the Róth ravine. [slovenskyraj.sk]

Slovak Paradise (Slovak: Slovenský raj) is a mountain range in central Slovakia. It is a part of the Spiš-Gemer Karst, which in turn is a part of the Slovenské rudohorie Mountains, a major subdivision of the Western Carpathians. It is located between the towns of Spišská Nová Ves in the north and Dobšiná in the south. It is particularly known for its gorges and waterfalls.

It is very popular with hikers as it has a number of unusual routes through gorges and waterfalls. There are numerous sections where fixed ladders are used to climb. The area is protected by the Slovak Paradise National Park (Národný park Slovenský raj).

Slovak Paradise National Park (Slovak: Národný park Slovenský raj) is one of the nine national parks in Slovakia, situated in East Slovakia. The National Park protects the area of the Slovak Paradise mountain range, which is located in the north of the Slovenské rudohorie Mountains (Slovak Ore Mountains).

The National Park covers an area of 197.63 km² (76.3 mi²), and the buffer zone around the park covers an area of 130.11 km² (50.2 mi²); 327.74 km² together. Eleven national nature reserves and eight nature reserves are situated in the park.[1] The park offers about 300 km of hiking trails, often equipped with ladders, chains and bridges. The Slovak Pradise contains about 350 caves, but only the Dobšinská Ice Cave, which is since 2000 a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is open to the public. [wikipedia]
