Their epic flight begins in London and will encompass a distrance of approximately 6000 nautical miles as they pass through 12 countries, dozens of cities and hundreds of picturesque sites only visible from the air! Deepak and Romiel plan to land at numerous historic places along the way to discover what these places mean to them personally, what these locations have meant to different people throughout the ages and what they are like today. For their mission Romiel and Deepak chose the modern, reliable and comfortable German-designed Flight Design airplane which is part of the multicultural aspect of their trip…. with major components built in Ukraine, equipped with an Austrian Rotax engine, the latest technology American instrument panel, an Italian satnav, an Apple iPad made in China and displaying the Swiss Alps, two Indians in the cockpit all administratively organized with English paperwork. “This is the unusual combination of global elements that will make our travels interesting and challenging” remarked Deepak. After lift-off in London, this fascinating air journey of discovery and learning then follows a course to Berlin, Krakow, Bucharest, Istanbul, Rhodes, Cyprus, Haifa, Eilat and on the return sector via Haifa to Cyprus, Athens, Bari, Napoli, Pisa, Nice and Paris before arriving back home to London. With a gadget called “Spot” that Deepak and Romiel will carry in their aircraft, the position will be tracked and traced live via satellite and shown on the website. “We hope you will enjoy following our route and reading the stories about the flight soon!” – Deepak and Romiel. "Follow Deepak and friend Romiel in their micro light aircraft, which they are flying from London to Haifa and back from the 5th October onwards. Stopped to refuel and Land's End and duly switched it on.Took off from Land's End and made a straight line track across Cornwall, Dartmoor and East Devon towards Compton Abbas in Wiltshire where food and drink were consumed. Then headed north to avoid the Salisbury Plain soldier playground and scuttled up a corridor of airspace towards Milton Keynes. Naturally there were flippin' gliders everywhere who are a monumental pain in the ass as they find a bit of lift in a narrow corridor of airspace and colonise it, going up and down and round in circles with absolutely no consideration for anyone else. At least some amusement was gained from the sight of a glider in the middle of a crop field who got it wrong and didn't make it back to base.A quick cuppa at Sywell and we got a transit straight through the refreshingly glider-free East Midlands zone, then direct back up to Leeds to finish the day with a splendid landing despite the 30kt crosswind gust.

My first helecopter lesson

Flown in a Robinson R22. from sywell to the village i live in and back. cant wait to qualify!!

dundee circle

circling Dundee waiting for the fog to clear!

Trip out with Mike & Tony

Our first stop was meant to be Little Gransden in Bedfordshire. Unfortunately as we flew over the midlands a layer of cloud appeared below us. We were only at 3000ft, yet were at least 1500ft above the cloud. This made for some pretty grim weather on the surface. The fog and low cloud had been forecast to clear several hours earlier, but clearly wasn\'t playing ball. Local ATIS and VOLMET reports weren\'t favourable for our destination at all, so we thought better of it and headed back up to the sunny north, landing at Crosland Moor near Huddersfield for a coffee. We then headed off again and flew to Barton, near Manchester where there was a bit of a show going on. Coke drunk, burgers eaten, then returned to Leeds for a beer.

2009-02-23-1445

radio nav

Night Circuit training

1.
