This section passes Moffett Federal Airfield on the north side and connects to the Stevens Creek trail now. The new segment is approximately 2.25 miles long.I rode from the parking area by the Sunnyvale SMaRT facility, heading west until you reach the bridge at the NE corner of the Moffett Field golf course, where the Don Edwards NWR property begins and the gate heading west used to be locked. It's now open and you can walk/ride west until you reach the intersection with the Stevens Creek trail, by another formerly-locked gate. I turned back there but many will choose to continue on.The trail is very flat and graded dirt with some gravel. Because the trail is no longer a dead-end, there are a lot more people out on it, especially bicyclists. I even ran into Antonyw while riding out here today. This should be a great place to watch some interesting aircraft.

Alamitos Creek - Long Version

This is the 10.7-mile version of the creek trail ride, starting from the free parking area beside Almaden Lake Park, then doing the southern side trail sections in both directions. The turn-around point is Harry Road. This could be stretched out by crossing Harry Rd. and continuing on the dirt trail over to Santa Teresa Park, especially as I ride a mountain bike. But the paved trail ends at Harry Road.I use this ride as my shorter exercise ride. It's a bit more than half as long as the Los Gatos Creek Trail ride, and it's closer to home so I can go do this ride in about an hour. (Coffee stop on the way home not included!)

Alamitos Creek - Solo Ride

Quick bike ride from Almaden Lake to where Alamitos Creek Trail crosses Camden near the end of the trail, and back. This was a quick exercise ride and I didn't know how long it would take or what kind of speed I could maintain. Now I know.On future rides where I have a little more time, I plan on using the end of the trail at Harry Rd. as the turnaround point.

Los Gatos Creek Trail Ride III

Unedited track of my afternoon ride today, including stops. I found one geocache along the way to mix things up a little. At the southern turnaround point at the Lexington reservoir dam, the route has changed slightly since the two-year outlet reconstruction project there was finally completed yesterday. This makes the trail very slightly longer, but with a much more gradual (and mostly paved) uphill across the dam, instead of going straight up the west side.

Alamitos Creek - Family Bike Ride

Nice easy family bike ride, also the longest ride to date for the 6-year old.

Los Gatos Creek Trail Ride - Slight Return

Like my previous ride with some minor variation in trails taken, mainly the dirt track on the east side of the creek in LG Creek Park.

Los Gatos Creek Trail Ride

Starting from the trailhead on Meridian near 280, I rode up to the dam at Lexington, and to a geocache that was my turn-around point.I made a few stops, but not many. (Yes, the ridge trail along the creek trail, it seems like an oxymoron to me too.) At the southern end we rode to El Toro Brewing for lunch. Two riders (the smart ones) took the bus back while three of us reversed the route and rode home, for a total of about 45 miles. As usual, the elevation changes in this track seem exaggerated by the GPS. The route is pretty flat with the high and low points only about 300' apart. Sure, there were a lot of small ups and downs, but the elevation spikes can easily be seen in the track data. I'd estimate that the total elevation change should be 1,000' or less.4 of the 5 riders, including me, were on mountain bikes, the 5th was on a road bike. There was no dirt riding, it was all paved. We stopped for several geocaches on the way down, but Everytrail doesn't let you select more than a single activity per trip. This was a very enjoyable ride, with great company. I don't ride regularly so I was really hurting - mainly in the thighs - for a day or two after.
