At one point we decided to head down an unmapped road and ran into a series of obstacles where wind or avalanche had dropped a number of big trees across the road on three successive switchbacks. We were able to cut off branches and muscle the bikes over logs only to come to a dead-end a short distance later. Doh! We also encountered a mama bear with two cubs crossing the road on our way back.

High on the Hall-Mines Divide

What started as a simple exploration trip off of Exit 38 on I-90 led to a grand adventure up to the ridge separating the Hall and Mines Creek drainages. We ended up on an abandoned road that took us through a rocky stream crossing at a washed-out culvert, brush and alders encroaching on the roadbed, baby's head rocks covering the way along the final stretches of the route, and great views from a variety of vistas. I laid my bike down 4 times on the loose rocks, but had a fantastic time!

Middle Fork Snoqualmie Ride

A soggy ride with Reg out to the end of the Middle Fork Snoqualmie Road at Dingle Creek.

North Fork Snoqualmie Ride

This was a nice run with my buddy Reg from home out to the end of Road 5700 (at the start of the Lennox Creek Trail) along the North Fork Snoqualmie River.

Motorcycle trip to Burnt Knob and Beyond on the Magruder Corridor

This was day 2 and the final day of riding for our Rolling Thunder crew. We ended up losing can of gas off of my bike when it was jettisoned at some point between Green Mountain and Poet Creek Campground and we spent almost an hour riding back up and down the road looking for it. That delay and the lack of spare gas meant that we didn't make it as far along the Corridor as we had hoped, but we did make it up to the spectacular summit of Burnt Knob and placed a geocache there.

Motorcycle ride on the Magruder Corridor

This ride was the first day of the sixth installment of our mostly-annual Rolling Thunder outing. This was the first time we went motorized, trading in our mountain bikes for motorcycles and hitting the remote Magruder Corridor in Idaho. After leaving Grangeville where we stayed in a motel overnight, we headed into the Nez Perce National Forest and up the Magruder until we reached a suitable campsite at Mountain Meadows Campground. We quickly set up camp and then jumped on the cycles to start riding. We made it to just below Burnt Knob before an oil overflow on Justin's bike encouraged us to turn around and head back.

Ride to Carnation Farm/Chinook Bend
