Cuyahoga Valley Naional Park lies around the homonym river in the

carved a gorge after an 18-meter drop. This isn't an extraordinary
waterfall but worth a visit while taking a short hike on one of the numerous
trails around the park, or just the one-minute walk from the parking

Not far from Riquier train station, the climb to the fort follows roads and staircases reaching a quiet public park. The fort can't be visited inside but its splendid conditions and the views from there are well worth a walk. This track then leads down to Villefranche's beach through a trail dotted with workout "stations" and the century-old "Staircase of Glass" which doesn't really deal with such material. Railings and steps are made of elaborately modeled concrete recalling wood and stone texture. From Villefranche, return to Nice via the coastal trail - partially closed as of Jan 2013, the closed section should be soon re-opened after consolidation/safety works.

Walking - Toce Waterfall

Walking - Toce Waterfall (Cascate del Toce).
Tucked in the northernmost portion of Piemonte, the Toce Waterfall is
the second highest in Europe and one among the most dramatic. The Toce
river carved the narrow "V" shaped Formazza Valley which shows off its
dark granite substance to the visitor. Upstream from the waterfall, a
dam collects the Toce waters for hydroelectric purposes in the Morasco Lake and the
waterfall in full swing can only be seen at given hours during which the
"tap" is kept open.NOTE: the above is valid in between the first
Sunday of June and the last Sunday of September. During this time frame
the waterfall is always "open" between 11,30 AM and 1,30 PM. For precise
schedule and extended operating hours, refer to the website here below.A
couple of bars/restaurants are located next to the waterfall and one
more (Walser Schtuba) can be found in Frua. A walk to the dammed lake is
a pleasant occasion to enjoy the surrounding nature.

This UNESCO World Heritage site had developed to become the most important town of Minas Gerais during the gold rush age, connected to the distant commercial port of Paraty by the Estrada Real. Revolutionary ideas that took shape here didn't go too far and basically ended with the execution of the leader, Tiradentes, on the gallows in the homonym main square. The historical city center hasn't changed much since and features fine examples of Baroque style buildings and churches.Free-admission Casa dos Contos, where gold tax was collected, is an interesting building and museum. It's also worth seeing the Mina da Passagem, the most generous gold mine in the entire area, which still holds gold although too costly to be extracted. From Ouro Preto's main square, Praça Tiradentes, take the bus to Mariana and stop just west of the nearby town of Mariana, a small but well preserved historical town.

Walking - Paraty

Walking - Oddly enough, Paraty is the only place I've found around Brazil where the map is inaccurate and doesn't correspond to the recorded track. The satellite view map shows the correct position but other maps (hybrid, map, terrain) show the same offset error I experienced with the Garmin map in my GPS. From our hotel in Campeche we explored in search of a bus connection to Lagoa da Conceição which is included in this track between the bus stop and bus terminal waypoints. Total walking distance was 12 Km. We first reached Joaquina Beach where it's possible to rent a sandboard and try the dune slopes, then reached the starting point by walking on dunes and the long beach all the way to Campeche. It was sad to see no less than 20 dead penguins on the shore. These were stranded by strong currents to take them all the way far north from their habitat and towards death by starvation. Probably an unexpected meal for red-headed Turkey Vultures (Cathartes Aura).

Walking - BR Iguaçu & AR Iguazu Falls

Walking - Iguaçu (Iguazu) Falls.
