A very classic local hike, in a not so classic local weather. For a change, I was happy at my desk :-)

Hmmm, workday. I really should have deducted a star or two... ;^)
Nice writeup as always. How did your new shoes snowshoes work out, any issues?
There are some bearing trees with aluminum marker plates on them in Portola Redwoods SP.

Looks like a nice trip, I was just up nearby at Rubicon bay but got a little injured skiing at Squaw. Wasn't able to get out on snow shoes while I was up, hopefully next time.
@macridge yep, thanks for the pointer!
@croyle The snowshoes worked well I think. Hard to tell when you don't have a reference point. They were even better the second day, probably because I finally decided to read the manual. I didn't attach them correctly during that first hike. I felt that i was sinking a bit too much in the very soft snow and am considering getting extensions (tails) in the future. I need to snowshoe with the pros. Hopefully, I can do a couple of trips with Rebecca & Co. this year.
@chris Really close indeed. We rented a cabin in Homewood just by the beginners' lift. The weather was not great that weekend but I still had fun.
