There's a bit of trivia about Yonah that is not commonly known. Fire is a renewing force in the forest. It stimulates undergrowth that is necessary for wildlife development and health. For these reasons the local indians used to burn the mountain on a regular basis - the fire would burn up then, out of fuel, burn out. In this way they created a renewable hunting ground for wild game.
