boothash reviewed the destination Bon Echo Provincial Park on May 30, 2013

" One of the best Ontario Provincial Parks out there. It large, has many activities to do, from day hikes, a 17km backpacking trail, a backcountry-lite canoe camping lake (park at one side and paddle to one of 21 campsites around the lake), nice beaches at the car campground, walk-in campsite, a day area, a little stream you can paddle down. Heated yurts are also available to rent year round, with electricity and a barbecue outside.
Then, there's the Mazinaw cliffs with ancient pictographs and cedars clinging to the sides. There is a canoe and kayak rental contractor on site to rent boats for exploring the cliffs. You can hike up to the top of the cliffs, crossing the lake by your own boat or the ferry to get to the trailhead. So much to do!
The downside... not much. Maybe the hoardes of paddlers and motorboats are a bit of a putooff n a good summer weekend, and there's strangely to camp shop or ice on site, you have to drie down the road to a marina to get supplies.

Thanks for the trip description. I'm hoping to get out and do both loops on a 3 day in the next few weeks.

Brings back great memories, first hiked the Highlands back in 1975. I have hiked that trail 6 different times at various times of the year, August being the best month (skeeters and black flies not as bad). We saw the most wildlife; bears, moose, geese, loons in late September but you need to pack warmer clothing.
