About Me
The Shannon Region Trails Programme was launched by Shannon Development in 2007 with the aim of establishing the Shannon Region as a world-class destination for walking, cycling, water-based and other outdoor activity pursuits. The Programme was designed to create a recreational trail network to cater for the strong growth in activity-based holidays in Ireland and to respond to market demands which confirm the diversity of holidaymaker in this sector, from the occasional walker to the dedicated outdoor adventurer. In economic terms, the goal is to secure long-term sustainable benefits to the Region and to attract tourists to less developed areas of the Region in particular. To date, the Programme has assisted over 60 projects involving overall partnership investment of around €5 million. Key partners include Fáilte Ireland, Coillte, the National Trails Office, the City and County Councils of Limerick, Clare, North Tipperary and Offaly, the Rural Recreation Officers, the Local Development Companies (LEADER), private landowners and local community groups throughout the Region.

Shannon Development is the regional economic development agency appointed by the Irish government and is also the Shannon Region’s Tourism Authority.
