Pacific Crest Trail: Excellent hike as we continue to segment hike the PCT. Trail Head is on Highway S22 and marked by the PCT signs. Rolling open fields with wildlife and vistas all the way to Warner Springs. We sighted hawks and coyotes. The cows found us interesting to watch walk by. Bernardo Bay to Bernardo Mountain: Moderate hike up Bernardo Mountain from Lake Hodges. Well maintain trail and popular with hikers and mountain bikes. Great 360 view from the top. The new Lake Hodges Stress Ribbon Bridge is fun to cross and view the lake. Lots of wildlife around the lake.

Summit is closed during the winter...I assume to keep people from damaging the area by playing in the snow. Excellent vistas and a pleasant day hike. Take the trail vice the dirt road once about a mile into the hike. Park on the main road and walk in to the trail head. No water or facilities.Great easy hike.
Pacific Crest Trail: Scissors Crossing to S22. 23.1 mile strenuous hike. My hiking partner and I continue on our PCT section hikes again after a break over the hot summer in San Diego County. This section was the longest due to no trail heads accessible. Trail starts out with a moderate climb to the top of along a ridge on the western edge of the Anza Borrego Desert. Pt Lobos State Reserve is a few miles south of Carmel, California. Easy hiking with beautiful views and interesting history. Park on Highway 1 or pay $10/car. Well kept park with friendly rangers and docents full of information. Wildlife is abudant..sea otters, seals, birds and much more. Highly recommended!
Moderate hike - 5 mile round trip - 800ft climb on dirt road.Blue Sky Reserve in Poway to Ramona Lake. Great afternoon hike to get some good exercise and enjoy the nature preserve. Good views and a popular hiking and running area. Pacific Crest Trail leg: Sunrise Highway to Scissors Crossing. Start is at 5000ft and ends at 2200ft. Tough downhill trek with loose rocks. Scenary is a plus especially with the recent rains. Good winter hike. No water or road access other than Sunrise Highway trailhead and Scissors Crossing.

What a great hike! Easy grade along the rim of the Anza Borrego Desert. Start out near the Mt Laguna Store and head north parallel to Sunrise Highway. Beautiful vistas, flora, mountains and rock formations. Follows the old highway after Pioneer Mail picnic grounds and passes some interesting plaques that have been placed honoring people. Wasn't sure what that was all about. If there is a marquee hike in the Mt Laguna...

Pacific Crest Trail (Campo to Lake Morena): Day hike 18DEC09. Perfect weather day in San Diego. Tough hike with no water refill. Good vistas. Border Patrol friendly and monitored our departure from the border. Trail Head at Morena is just outside of the campground. Parking is free.
