Unmarked trail on south side of lake (not the main park entrance, but N Ridge Road to Elephant Road.) Unmarked gravel parking lot just before bend in road.Started out on trail but soon cut over to woods road due to very wet and muddy conditions. Could see only glimpses of lake, and only from woods road. Trail and road crisscrossed. Hardly saw anyone except for some people riding horses and just few...
A very pleasant, quiet place with views up close and from up above the Tohickon Creek. A brief, simple get back into hiking type hike. Even pleasant in a mild rain. Ate lunch on the rocks in the creek. Guide book mentioned waterfalls, this was false, more like little trickles even after days and days of rain. Passed only a few other people.
A close-by, quick, good workout in a very pleasing environment, especially late afternoons when wood thrushes are calling along with American toads. Geologic outcrops, beautiful, tall Tulip trees. Despite the always crowded parking lot, trails are never that crowded, somehow the mountain bikers and hikers and rock climbers all disperse throughout and it's always a nice place to visit. The pond always has frogs/tadpoles and a few turtles. Not to be confused...
Beautiful, peaceful, easy - moderate hike through deciduous forest to top of ridge and on to hawk migration overlook with an outstanding view.
