Barnstable, MA, United States
Hiking | 7.5 miles
First 'real' spring day with full exposure from the sun on the Sandy Neck trail. Very nice, but it has to be done on a cool day - otherwise you'll melt!

Mountaineering | 7.5 miles
Very cold and windy day on the mountain, but well worth it! Went up and down via the Lion Head winter trail, which is MUCH steeper than its summer counterpart. This is an absolutely amazing climb, but it goes without saying that one should ONLY do this with all the required equipment and a ton of warm clothes!Weather stats for the day:Sustained winds: 60mphPeak wind: 90mphTemperature: -1FFeel-like temperature: -39F

Hiking | 33 miles
Overall Stats: Distance: 36.10 miles Duration: 4 days Elevation gain: 2750ft Maximum elevation: 3500ft Minimum elevation: 750ft One of the most beautiful hikes in Iceland and probably the entire world. The scenery changes wildly from day-to-day and so does the weather. Expect sore feet and wet clothes, but also some of the most beautiful landscapes on earth. The trail is marked well in most places, so it is easy to follow, but here will be travel in some areas...

Mt. Washington via Huntington Ravine KGA026

Glen House, New Hampshire, United States
Hiking | 4.5 miles
This is a great challenging trail, however it is not for the untrained hiker! The top of the trail is very steep and scrambling is tricky - any fall here would have dire consequences. When you ascend the rock-slabs in the ravine, make sure you keep a close eye for the yellow blazing marks - it is VERY easy to lose track of your trail as it doesn't always take (what appears to...

Mt. Osceola from the East Peak KGA021
by kga1978 on Oct 03, 2010
Lincoln, New Hampshire, United States
Hiking | 8.4 miles
This is a rather lengthy trip with limited views. Taking the route over the East Peak was surprisingly strenuous but fun in places.Whilst the views from Mt. Osceola are decent, there are much better views from nearby mountains.Unfortunately, many of the waypoints are way off, due to poor GPS tracking,

Lion's Head to Tuckerman Ravine KGA020
by kga1978 on Oct 09, 2010
Gorham, New Hampshire, United States
Hiking | 7.0 miles
This was an early October attempt to reach the summit of Mt. Washington. However, due to strong winds (80+ mph) and freezing temperatures, we decided to take the loop just below the summit. The Tuckerman trail was extremely busy with people going up and I would consider the Lion's Head trail to be much better for going down. The Ravine was warmer and protected from the wind, so the Tuckerman trail may be...

Hiking | 9.4 miles
This was a rather uneventful hike - very easy and no challenge at all. The weather was dreadful, but I guess the view would have been nice. The way down via the carriage way/snapper trail is really easy and quick.

Mt. Flume & Liberty via Flume Slide KGA017
by kga1978 on Sep 11, 2010

Hiking | 9.3 miles
Mt. Flume on Patriots day with flags being put on all nearby mountain tops. It was sunny, but the Flume Slide was wet and slippery. I VERY strongly recommend that you only do the slide with proper footwear - hiking boots are absolutely required!Besides the slide, the hike is pretty uneventful - most of the hike is below tree-line and the way down via Liberty Springs Trail is long and boring.

I very strongly recommend it over the more commonly used ValleyWay. It is rougher and steeper in places, but the view is much better. I suggest taking the ValleyWay down - it is easy and very well maintained. On a hot day...
