Driving from the summit to the visitor's center after watching the sunrise.
Watched the sunrise and testing out the iphone's gps on the summit.
We were heading South on Highway 1 and turned iono the narrow single lane road to Pfeiffer Beach.
Will write something here..
You'll see quite a few hikers, mt. bikers, and trail runners along this course. Great place for some outdoor fun anytime during the weekdays and weekends.
We started the day with the 9am tram to the upper tramway station, and worked our way to the Long Valley Ranger Station. This is where you need to fill out the Wilderness Pass if you want to go further into the forest/summit.Reaching the summit isn't so bad since the trail is well maintained/marked, and the incline is relatively moderate.
We started at the Millard Campground parking lot and worked our way to
the Sunset Ridge fireroad. We then took this road up to Cape of Good
Hope, where we took a break and continued up to the set of benches on the left. From
there, we took the Dawn
Mine trail into the canyons, and made our way back out towards Millard
Falls/Campground.It took us about 3hrs and 10 mins total.
Our descent from the summit of Mt. Baldy, back down to the Manker Flats parking lot via Baldy Bowl (ski hut). I was using the motionX GPS app on my phone.During the descent, we went to check out the remains from the plane crash, which is just a bit off the main trail. Be safe, and have fun.
Our ascent to the summit of Mt. Baldy using the Trails app for the iPhone. The app is great for importing tracks from this site, but for tracking, didn't come out as accurate as I wanted it to. I'll give it another try next time.I had a better time with accuracy on the descent, with the motionX GPS app. This was my first time on Baldy, and it sure kicked my butt.
