Lee planned this 20 mile hike for the troop. We met at Hall County Park at 7:00 AM. We left the park at 7:30. It was just beginning to get light out and about 26 degrees. There was very little wind. Another day and another part of the 20 mile hike Lee is planning. This time we hiked from where we turned around yesterday to the Platte River (Hamilton County Bridge). Lee and Kathy and I all went on the hike. It was a gorgeous afternoon.
Troop 114 hiked the Washington Trail for the 74th Rushmore Pilgrimage. The hike started at 8:30 AM Mountain Time at Rushmore Cave and ended about 3:20 PM Mountain Time at Mount Rushmore. 17 boys and 6 adults hiked the trail. 17 boys and 4 adults finished the hike. The last climb up to Rushmore was too much for a couple of us.
Just about every March Troop 114 does a 10 mile hike starting at Ft. Kearny SRA. We used to hike from the campground to the east side of Bassway Strip and Highway 10 but a little more than 3 years ago the old rail road bridge that crossed the Platte River was burned in a controlled burn gone bad.Now we hike from the campground to the bridge and then back to camp....

The 2011 Rushmore Pilgrimage Hike. Troop 114 hiked the Lincoln Trail beginning at the Samelius Trail Head and ending at Mt. Rushmore. The weather was perfect for a hike, sunny with a slight breeze in the 70's. We had 10 boys and 5 adults hike. They all completed the hike. One boy and 3 adults did not hike, they met us at the lunch stop with sandwich stuff and then cooked supper...
Out 3rd 10 mile hike this year with Troop 114. We hike the Marquette Trail from Hwy 66 to the Rodenbaugh Farm. We camped at the farm

This was our second 10 Mile hike for the the Hiking Merit Badge this year. We chose an urban hike that we could do in an evening. Ten boys and 5 adults completed the entire trip with a 6th adult joining us for the last half. (Kathy brought ice cream sandwiches out to Hall County Park for our supper break and then walked back to Suck's Lake with us.)The weather was great....

Hiking with Troop 114We did this hike in 2 parts from the Ft. Kearny State Rec Area to the burned out bridge over the Platte River and back to the camp ground. We took a break for lunch and then drove over to Highway 10 to hike to the bridge from the other side.
