I had a wonderful time hiking with friends in the Mt. Rogers National Recreation Area. What was supposed to be a colorful fall backpacking trip turned into a cold white winteresque one. This railwalk is a neat piece of downtown Roanoke. It is a short outdoor museum of railroad history. Signs and pictures detail the history of the railroad in Roanoke up to present day. Kids will love the interactive bells and whistles. There is nothing like the blast of a diesel train whistle.

Sharp Top is a popular hiking destination off the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Peaks of Otter recreation area. The summit of Sharp Top is impressive. On the way home from a wedding, some of my family stopped by the highpoint for Rhode Island. The trail is open to the public from 8-4 everyday, but please stay on the trail and respect the property rights of the adjacent owners. The trail is well marked and there are also a few USGS markers.

This track is in the vicinity of the Delaware State Highpoint. The exact location is debated. If you look like you are looking for the highpoint, you very well may run into a very nice local lady who will take you around and snap your picture. Be sure to sign her log book. There are several benchmarks to find and a Delaware/Pennsylvania Stateline marker.
