Hiking Trails and Trips
Trips
This is another easy afternoon hike or a nice place to stop on your way home from work. There are several trails, all pretty well marked and easy to follow. The trails center primarily around the small pond and stream. this guide is actually a compilation of two trips to mark a couple of the other trails. The first time I was there I stopped after work on a very hot...
This is more of a exploration / playground than a true hike. Everyone love to explore the various rock 'caves' and boulders. The entry into the chasm is actually the most difficult section of the trail. It does entail climbing on and around rock falls. While this may prove difficult for some people with more limited mobility, it isn't particularly difficult. To fully enjoy the area, take your time and explore...

This is another hike in the Callahan State Park. This area of the park is more 'wilderness' trails. They tend to be narrower trails with steeper and rockier sections. Overall, still easy hiking. There are several trails criss-crossing the area , all fairly well marked, however trail names are often difficult to find. There are a few maps located along the trails to help orientation. Beebe pond as well as the...

This is just one of many routes that are possible through Callahan State Park. There are trails that criss-cross throughout the park and the adjacent Sudbury Conservation Land. The first trail - Pipeline - is probably the steepest trail along the hike. The trails are well marked, and there are trail maps placed through-out to help. Most of the trails are wide and pretty level, and dogs are allowed on many...
Part of the 'Red Tail' trail that leads from Gibbs mountain trail to the the main parking lot at Callahan State Park.
Nice easy hike along the Sudbury Reservoir. The trail is actually an access road suitable for 2-3 people to walk abreast. The walk provides nice views of the lake and the surrounding area. The area is criss-crossed with fieldstone walls. I actually came across a couple small beaver along the shore as well as several deer. This trail would make a cross-country ski or snow-shoe hike as well. Round trip...
This is an hike through woods and along streams and marsh. Part of the trail is also a road. Not much to see this time of year but I imagine a fair number of birds during the warmer seasons. There is recent signs of beaver activity in the area. Total round trip is ~ 4.5 miles.
