In 145 days on the trail this year, I've met a lot of slow hikers. This
one beats them all. About a week ago I met a dung beetle rolling a
ball of dung five times its size up the trail, and it was faster then
this guy. About a month ago it was snakes and a porcupine lollygagging
along. But this...
North to Katahdin
Today, Easter Sunday April 8th, marks the beginning of the second leg of
the adventure. After four days off the trail I was itching to go. Got
up at 4:30 and drove to the trailhead parking lot at Caledonia State
Park in southern Pennsylvania and was headed north shortly after
sunrise.
The plan is (though best-laid plans "oft gang aglay") to string
together out-n-back day hikes from here continuously...
Rain Delay
It started gently early yesterday evening - just a nice pattering rain
that came and went. By dawn it was raining buckets, and it wasn't going
to magically stop when the sun came up. So much for Camelot.
Well, by 10AM it seemed to be letting up - just misting a bit - so off I
went to get in some hiking. Unfortunately Mother Nature wasn't quite
finished. ...
