Great circular walk around Leighton Moss and Silverdale taking in some super and varied scenery. The walk is not too strenuous and is suitable for families with younger children. There is some free parking at the start of the walk and toilets at Leighton Moss Nature Reserve.A great place to stop for a break is on the hill overlooking Leighton Hall, with great views over Morecambe Bay.
A circular trip around Haweswater Reservoir. The highest lake in the Lake District and completely man made. The aqueduct that runs from here and feeding Manchester with its drinking water 63 mile away is completely gravity fed. More details of this can be seen here. The dam to block the Mardle Beck was completed in 1940 after which the valley was flooded along with the village of Mardale with it. In times of...
This is a lovely circular starting at the NT Horsey Windpump and taking in the local Broads and the nearby beach. What's special about this beach is that it is inhabited by hundreds of seals which can be seen from the shore. The walk is easy going and completely flat. Parking is free for NT members and you can incorporate in a visit to the windmill along with a cuppa in the cafe.
We planned this circular after hearing some good reports from people that had done it. I based the route on this web article. Some free roadside parking is available at the start of the walk and a decent sized pay and display is situated a few hundred metres west of the Milnthorpe crossroads. This was a super walk with a varied landscape. I goes via the Fairy Steps which is quite easy to...
This is a lovely walk on the quieter west side of Lake Windermere. The route heads north through Heald wood then south back on the lakeside. The track uploaded was not actually the route planned as we had to turn back at one point due to a footpath being closed due to tree felling. It was still a great walk though.
A pleasant low level riverside walk along the River Esk. If you are lucky you could see some Greater Spotted Woodpeckers! If you are into Geocaching there are about 5 to get on this trip.
A short walk from Windermere up to Orrest Head. This has spectacular views over Lake Windermere and the surrounding fells for relatively little effort.
Bowness on Windermere is a great place but it gets quite busy so this is an ideal walk to take you away from the crowds. This is lovely circular walk around the back of Bowness ending with a fantastic view over the lake before dropping back into Bowness. This walk starts and ends from the pay and display car park on Glebe Road. On the day of our walk it cost £6 for six...
Some photos from our recent trip to the excellent Cragside Estate in Northumbria. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. The house is home to what were state of the art features at the time such as hot running water, hydro electric power and even a dishwasher!Set in some fantastic grounds which can all be explored too!The house has been maintained fantastically by the National Trust and in my view is one of...
We had heard good reports from a few people about the new Brockholes Nature Reserve at the old quarry sand pits near Preston so we thought we'd give it a try and we weren't disappointed. You only pay for parking, (so if you live in walking distance you can use it for free), which is not expensive. There are a few trails for varying distance, but we took the longest which was about...
This is a lovely circular trip around the village of Silverdale. We had planned to find a few geocaches on this walk as there are about four within good reach of the route, but it didn't work out that way. On we couldn't get to as the tide was high and cut it off. We will definitely do this walk again, so we can get them next time. The walk is a mixture...
We had this trip planned for some time after doing a multi stage cache series a few months ago. This is a one way trip from Staveley to Windermere following on the most part the Dales Way. The walk is many on quiet back roads and grassy tracks. It's a moderate walk with some lovely views across to the Langdales.Once in Windermere you can either retrace your steps or do as we did and...
I picked up this walk from other posted on this site here. We live in Caton and often walk down by the riverside, but have never ventured up to Aughton, home of the famous Pudding Festival held once every 21 years, (next one due in 2013 I think.I would say that the walk is moderate, walking boots are definitely required. Most of the walk is over fields on well signposted tracks and a small portion on...
A pleasant mutli cache circular around Glasson Dock area. This is the link to the first cache of the series.
A multi-cache series around Staveley, in the Lake District. One of the best that we have done. The link for the actual geocache is here.
