We were expecting a mellow spring ski day. Instead we got winter, with 14F at the start and only 30F at the end. We even had to stop for a warmup break in the morning. Thanks to the 5:00 closing we were able to get in over 30,000 vertical feet and about 30 miles of skiing in 31 runs, to break a couple of records. On top of that, we had blue...
Killington was 100% open so Chris, Katie, and I concentrated on runs we don't normally do. Thanks to Chris for the track.
Chris and Katie: 9 Double Blacks, 8 Single Blacks, and 1 Blue. Recorded by Chris's phone. His battery ran out before the end (on Conclusion).
Chris and Katie: 9 Double Diamond runs, 8 Single Diamonds, and one Blue Square.
Tracks from Jason's GPS
Leisurely ride with Andy around some South Shore towns.
Cambridge, Bedford, Concord, Maynard, Sudbury, Concord, Lexington, Cambridge, with Joseph and Andy on a clear and cool fall day. When we rode 62 last year with temps in the 90s, where was all the shade we found today?
Took the boat both ways this year and the family came up to meet me at Lecount Hollow. Spent Sunday with them at Marconi Beach, and then took the usual route back. From Eastham to Marconi I followed the route used by the Pan-Mass ride.
100 Miles Saturday. Despite a forecast of rain and nasty clouds all around, it never rained on us. Sunday we had about an hour of light rain, and near perfect weather by the end of the day. 144 miles total.
We didn't get many pictures this year, partly because the cameras were packed away in anticipation of rain. For more pictures, see last year's trip.
Annual trip with Chris, Timon, Steve, Dave, Adam and Adam.
Probably the largest fraction of good riding of any trip I've taken. Navigating from Georgetown to N. Andover is a challenge, but worth the effort. With Andy, Jason, and Timon. I little light rain before and during lunch. Lunch at Jimmy K's in Georgetown.
Possible Future Trip.
Training ride with Jason and Joseph.
A very complicated ride from the Franklin, MA train station to N. Kingstown, RI. This is one to try again with a better route. Because of bad preparation, I had trouble finding my way out of Franklin. The Southern New England Trunk Line is an unpaved trail, poorly marked, and somewhat muddy. The next trip will avoid that. The route through Woonsocket needs a little improvement and the route through North Providence...
Four rides overlaid for comparison.Ipswich to Andover (with the Parker River Bridge closed)Ipswich to N. Wilmington (with the Chain Bridge or Hynes Bridge closed)West Gloucester to Haverhill.Haverhill to Plum Island and back. I suggest mixing parts of each.
Haverhill to Plum Island and back. Thanks to Jason for planning this route. The routes from west of Groveland to Newburyport and from Rocks Bridge back to Haverhill are scenic and quiet. These could be included in an Ipswich-Andover or Gloucester-Haverhill ride as well. The GPS ran out of batteries just before Newburyport, causing the gap.
36 mile training ride wiith Andy. A cold day for riding.
First big ride of the season with Andy. Woburn, Burlington, Bedford, Concord, Lexington, and back to Cambridge in ideal biking weather.
