One of the best adventures while visiting Palm Springs is to take the tram ride to the top of the ridge above at 8,616 feet.  The goal?  A wonderful day hiking in some of the most beautiful wilderness in Southern California.  The tram ride up and down is a novelty in itself, but once at the top - stepping out of the upper tram building into the glorious fresh air, scented pines...

Tonight was  a pressed hike up the mountain of sand, up almost one mile of hiking with only a brief stop to catch my breath.  If you have ever hiked up a sand dune on Lake Michigan, you will know how hard it can be, though there is more firmness than just lose sand.   Once on a ridge at the top I set up my camera tripod, which the wind promptly...

When in Palm Springs you will notice to the East a rather tall sandy hill with towers bristling from the top.
