Scout's first long hike. 12 km and 3.5 hours. She loved it. We had her out for part of this hike in the winter. Beautiful day, partly sunny and 16 degrees.
Went out for a short hike with Scout. She is 5.5 months old so we don't go too far yet.A glorious day with temps just above freezing and a clear blue sky. Saw a couple dozen people and two dogs!
Beautiful summer day for a hike. 12 km easy hike. We've done this hike more than 20 times over the years. It's August and we've had lots of moisture and that means the mushrooms were in full bloom. Many different kinds and some very large ones..
15 km up and back hike up Galatea Creek. Actual height gain was 650m. Beautiful day, not too hot and just a little sprinkle of rain. Passed 234 people and 18 dogs. Not a bad human/dog ratio. There are 9 bridges, one over Kananaskis river and 8 on Galatea creek.

Today George took us up Helvellyn. 3rd highest peak in England at 950 meters (3117 ft). Was a glorious day with fabulous scenery. We went up the Striding Edge route and down the Swirral Edge routes. Not hard to say this was the highlight of our trip.
Big hike, 21.5 km and 5.5 hours. Beautiful day. Saw bear tracks and a Jake found us a beaver skull.
We woke up to a cool and rainy morning. A bit of a surprise since we have had such great weather the last few weeks. Looked like the rain would end soon so we headed out to Little Elbow camp ground. From there we went down Little Elbow trail about 4 km to Nihahi Creek trail. This was our first time on this trail. The trail starts out going up, about 100 meters...
I found this hike listed on a website MMikes.com. It sounded good. We were looking for someplace new, not too much elevation gain and not too long since it was going to be in the high 20's temperature wise.We decided to go clockwise which would mean doing the steep part going up. Right away it was evident that this was not a marked hike and we were going up this slope through...
Nihahi Ridge is a hike we have not done before located at the end of highway 66. You follow the Little Bow Trail for about a kilometer and then head up. It was overcast, about 20 degrees and very humid. We were thankful for the clouds as if it was 28 and sunny like yesterday, we wouldn't have made it. There were no streams along the way and the dogs were definitely...
We went up to Barrier Lookout for Canada Day. It was a beautiful morning with a clear blue sky. We were first to the parking lot as we had hoped. This was a familiar trail as we had done it twice before. The last time was about 6 years ago so our memory was that it was a climb but not too difficult. We have done Prairie Mountain and Cox Hill in...
Took a day off work to celebrate summer solstice. We had gone up Prairie Mountain a few weeks ago and thought we should do Cox Hill also. It is slightly lower but a little farther than Prairie Mountain. Even at summer solstice there is still some snow up top. The ridge we climb up is on the north side so some places get sunlight only in the morning or the evening. It...
We went for a hike this morning on a regular route that we have done on at least 20 occasions. We started following Powder Face Creek trail and then took a left at the fork in the trail. This trail is called Prairie Link and it takes you over the hills separating Powder Face Creek (please correct me if this is not correct.) and Prairie Creek. Note that where Prairie Link meets...
Just went out to get some sun and went out for a couple hours. The wind was howling which made it a bit uncomfortable. Right on the path there was the remnants of a deer that must have been killed within the last day or so. Most of it was not on the path but Jake found a rack of ribs in the bush. It took a bit of doing to get...
