by drnantu on Jun 29, 2012
Xiyong, Guangdong Sheng, China
Hiking | 8.3 miles
Five guys hiked the Maluan Mountain. We started at the Dongbei village. The first part of the trail is through dirt road (accessible by bike). The road then became paved. We went around the Honghualing Reservoir. We then continued to the Maluan water fall. It is rather big because of the recent heavy rain. We had packed lunch close to the Maluan water fall. We then walked into the Maluan Mountain. There are many small roads and we were lost...

Hiking | 2.8 miles
I went to this famous trail with two other friends. I was told that there might be celebrity sightings. Well, we did see quite a few good looking men and women, but no famous faces. The trail starts very gentle grade. Then, we could see the Hollywood sigh and the downtown high-rises. The view is magnificent, far stretching to the sea. The last quarter mile, we came down to the mountain. The...

Shabarum regional park grand loop
by drnantu on Feb 19, 2012
Rowland, California, United States
Hiking | 5.2 miles
This is the grand loop for the Shabarum regional park in Rowland Heights. One can also do the wildcat look which is much shorter at about 2 miles. The first and the last part of the wildcat look is the same as this loop. However, the grand loop goes up the mountain for an intense workout. The reward is the view of the valley.

Hiking | 3.8 miles
I hiked up to the Observation Point in the winter, Feb. 9. 2012. The first part of the trail was icy and very slippery.  I did the Angels Landing hike the day before. I could see the icy road to the oberservation point across from the Angels Landing point. After the first stretch of switchbacks, the trail entered into a narrow canyon. Then, to the back of the mountain where you could...

I hiked up in the summer of 1998.  It left me such a deep impression that I came back again feb. 8 2012. I arrived at the trailhead at about 10:40am. I was very concerned about the icy condition at the top.I got to Scott lookout in less that 40min. Hiking here in winter is quite and cool. Much better than summer.Looking up the trail, it was snow and ice.  I came...

Five guys did the trail in early Jan. It was cool and about 20 C. Sunny and a little foggy. The first part of the trail is through paved (stoned) trail leading up the summit. Then the paved road ends. There  is a dirt road going down through the woods. The trail is NOT marked but can be easily seen because it is well traveled. In the middle of the trail going...
