Hiking Bonita Falls near Lytle Creek San Bernardino National ForestHiking Bonita Falls near Lytle Creek San Bernardino National Forest. The Xtreme Hikers set out to find the waterfalls that eluded some of them the last time they were out there. This time there was a goal, and we were determined to find the falls and more. After some research and learning that Bonita Falls is the second tallest in Southern California, we learned...

It was Jenn's idea to go hiking on Halloween. So, after all the kids were off the streets, we decided to hit the trails. We settled on Schabarum Regional Park and Powder Canyon in Rowland Heights because it's dark and spooky! We didn't get started until about 11pm. We started on Old Fullerton Rd and all alone as usual. I had my headlamp and and Jenn had a flashlight, since her headlamp isn't working...

Since I had some business in Chula Vista on Saturday, I figured I'd stay until Sunday and go on a hike. The problem was which place to hike! After much searching, I decided on Lawson Peak at 3,662' and Gaskill Peakat 3,838' with a total gain/loss of about 1,600' from the south trail-head. It looked like a challenge and I was feeling good.I did some prepping;Firstly, I checked out other peoples blogs...

As usually happens on our hikes, this wasn't planned for up until the last night before heading to the falls. The plan was to hit a spot that I found in the Cleveland National Forest, but after further review, it was going to be too difficult a hike for us, because a 160' rappel was inevitable. Maybe next time. So, our two choices were between Sapphire Canyon Falls near Rancho Cucamonga and Bonita...

This hike was something that Dina had read about, and her and Jenn attempted to find the trailhead with no luck. Instead, they hiked another area just around the corner. Thanks to a bit of research and a picture of the trailhead from ModernHiker, I was able to use GPS coordinates to find the trailhead. Jenn and I were the only ones that could go on a hike this July the 4th day,...

This was the Xtreme Hikers' second trip to Rubio Canyon and I was looking forward to this. The first time up, we had only seen a few of the waterfalls that are located in the area. We didn't get to see Thalehaha Falls (aka Bridal Vail Falls), Roaring Rift Falls, and Leonite Falls. That was our goal this time up. So, the Sunday started out a foggy day, but once we got...
This hike started out being planned the night before, just as many others have. This was supposed to be non hiking weekend, but when plans fall through, you change your schedule up. I wasn't able to make the hike this weekend, but a couple of the Xtreme Hiker divas had something planned. They decided to head up to the Topanga Canyon area and explore some trail up there. St. Ynes Falls looked...
This April Fools Day hike was much anticipated by me. Recommended by Smalls, I looked further into it and found that it was rich in history and a beautiful, mostly shaded hike. As I researched I found that Rubio Canyon was the start of the Mt. Lowe railway system in the mountains. Many of the ruins are still there and can be seen as you hike up to the falls. Being so close to Echo...
It was a perfect day for a early morning scout hike. The sky was clear, a slight cool breeze, and we were eager to venture out into new trails. Initially, we had mapped out a hike, thought Whiting Ranch, into Limestone Canyon, and back, but decided to cut it short and separate the two hike, because of the time we spent exploring. The day was beautiful, and without a cloud in sight meant, the...

Initially this night hike was supposed to be at the old Nike missile site at the end of Vantage Pointe Dr., in Rowland Heights. Since there was security actually doing their job there, it thwarted our plans. No biggie, we had a back-up plan. Since Schbarum Park is just down the street, we headed there. This year we plan to get more night hikes in and try to be more consistent about...
This hike started off like most of the others, last minute. This weekend, we initially planned to hike Shipwreck Trail in Palos Verdes, but that changed, because there were many people who couldn't make it this Sunday. Saturday night, it was decided, by Jenn, that we would be heading to the Hollywood sign. As many of us have been there before, this is one of those hikes that you can go on...
