We started at Eaton Saddle. My GPS wasn't too happy about the tunnel so it didn't record some of the hike. Total distance was 4.5 miles.
After not being on the trail since Thanksgiving weekend I had been dying to get out of the house. I got some new hiking garb and a new camera(GoPro HD 2) for Xmas and was eager to use them. I wanted to do a quick and somewhat easy hike so that I could bring along my wife. To begin with I forgot my GPS at home but luckily I had my iPhone...
My mother-in-law was in town for the long weekend and decided to come along on my hike. We started off at Eaton Saddle even though the sign says it's closed. Pretty much the entire south side of San Gabriel Peak is charred from the station fire and there's no shade at all. Once we got to the saddle my mother-in-law decided she didn't want to go back the way we came up...
There's not much to say about this hike. It was just another peak to bag. The trailhead starts off at mile marker 45. Right off the bat you gain almost 200 in 1/10th of a mile. After that you follow a saddle with nice views looking south. There's a moderate climb for the final push. Like I said there's not a whole lot to say.
